The Technical Animator will collaborate with the Animation team to develop and implement animation systems, tools, and pipelines on various projects. 




Day To Day
Responsibilities

As a Technical Animator, your primary responsibilities will include collaborating with the team to develop efficient animation rigs, creating tools and scripts to streamline animation workflows, and implementing animation systems within Unreal 5. You'll optimize animation assets for performance, troubleshoot technical issues, and contribute to the overall creative vision of the project by staying updated on industry trends and recommending innovative solutions. 

Skills Knowledge and Expertise
Must Haves
  • Experience with Unreal 5 
  • Experience with IK/FK motion matching
  • Experience working with or setting up animation graphs
  • Working knowledge of Maya, specifically the ability to create custom script tools (MEL / Python) that streamline artist workflow and/or increase efficiency
  • A focus on animation support from rigging to pipelines to tools for animation
  • A strong understanding of animation and all the steps involved in creating strong motion
  • Ability to provide technical support for the animation team on any given project
  • Overall strong software development and programming skills
  • Understanding of "artistic concepts", e.g. modeling, lighting, and shading
  • Ability to troubleshoot sometimes contradictory technical and artistic needs to find creative solutions
  • A willingness to explore various solutions to multiple challenges concurrently, along with an acknowledgment that some work may need to be discarded occasionally.
  • Working knowledge of C# and Python/MEL

Education & Experience Required
  • Any degree or certification in a relevant field, or equivalent work experience 
  • At least 3 years of experience in a similar role

Nice-To-Have Skills
  • Familiarity with C++ or other high-level languages
  • General knowledge of programmable shaders
  • Understanding of 3D art
  • Understanding of Unity

Materials Required
Candidate should provide portfolio of code/techniques that they have created or directed and a resume detailing the projects/studios that they have been a part of. A technical art test may be required.
