Girl Scouts of Western Ohio offers summer Overnight Camp opportunities at Camp Libbey in Defiance, Ohio and Camp Whip Poor Will in Morrow, Ohio.   

 

Why you should work at camp: 

Working at camp can be a fun life changing experience but it is also a great place to build a variety of skills that future employers are looking for. Skills you’ll develop at camp this summer include conflict resolution, interpersonal skills, creativity and problem solving, management skills, time management and prioritization, plus valuable experience working directly with children. 

 

What you’ll do: 

As staff, you’ll spend your summer living on-site at Camps Libbey (Defiance, OH) and Whip Poor Will (Morrow, OH), providing camp programming for our Overnight Camp program. You’ll help girls choose their own adventures while participating in hiking, swimming, creeking, outdoor living skills, building teamwork, archery, nature activities, crafts, or working on badge or Girl Scout Journey activities. 

  

Positions Available: 

  • Counselor In Training Director- $75/day* Manages the Counselor In Training and Junior Counselor programs, including planning, organizing and directing these programs. Applicants must be 21 years of age or older and have a valid Driver's License.
  • Arts and Crafts Specialist- $75/day* Develops and delivers arts and crafts activities for campers.  Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Unit Leader- $73/day* Provides leadership to the camp unit, including the direct supervision and guidance of Unit Counselors and ensuring a quality Girl Scout Leadership Experience by meeting camper needs and carrying out camp activities.  Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Unit Counselor- $71/day* Provides a quality camp experience through the planning, teaching, coordinating, and carrying out of activities and guiding campers in their personal growth.  Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.

*Daily rates are listed - the full seasonal schedule is 56 days worked; overall seasonal pay will vary depending on the number of days worked/time-off taken.  

 

Our summer camp season begins with mandatory all-staff training from May 28 to June 7, 2024.   Our camp sessions run from June 10 to August 2, 2024, with a break around July 4th.  You will live on site, with the work week being Sunday-Friday.

 

Some positions require specific training on the following dates, but all staff are invited to attend, if they would like: 

  • Adventure Challenge Education: May 23- 25, 2024
  • Lifeguard Certification: May 28-30, 2024


What you’ll need: 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age, or at least 21 years of age for specific positions 
  • Previous experience teaching or delivering programming to youth 
  • Successful completion of fingerprinting and criminal background check as required by Ohio law 
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License for specific positions 
  • Must have a High School Diploma, GED, or National Career Readiness Certificate
