SGSS, a Parsons company, has an immediate full-time opening for a Senior Platform Engineer (SPE) onsite at our corporate headquarters located in West Melbourne, FL. The SGSS IT Support Team is responsible for the infrastructure that supports the successful development and deployment of satellite ground station software. The organizations' engineers and administrators apply their knowledge of software, operating systems, networks, databases, architectures, and tools to improve the maintainability and operability of software systems. The SPE Technical Lead role will help SGSS continue its expansion into cloud-based infrastructure and application deployments by providing deep knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and other products in the Red Hat ecosystem. The SPE will help architect, build, and harden systems containing government-off-the-shelf, commercial, and open-source software. The SPE Technical lead will champion automation of functional and technical processes and drive innovation. The candidate will passionately ensure SGSS is designing and deploying scalable, available, fault-tolerant and reliable applications in a hybrid (on premise and AWS cloud) environment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide technical leadership to the SGSS IT Support team that provides system operations, change management, configuration management, user support, IT security, and system administration
  • Lead support team in designing, building, maintaining and ensuring the seamless integration of cloud-based infrastructure and application deployments by providing deep knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and other products in the Red Hat ecosystem
  • Coordinate team efforts in troubleshooting, recovery, and root cause analysis efforts. Communicate with application leads, key developers and other stakeholders for advanced troubleshooting support
  • Assist system developers/engineers build and harden systems containing government-off-the-shelf, commercial, and open-source software.
  • Identify potential risk and develop mitigation strategies to ensure successful transition of cloud-based technology
  • Develop and automate methods for configuration, monitoring, and hardening of labs and production systems in physical, virtual, and cloud environments
  • Ensure expert provisioning of physical and virtual servers with Red Hat Satellite.
  • Administer and troubleshoot Linux hosts and networks (load, LVM, RPMs, scripting, DNS, routing, firewalls)
  • Oversee deployment, management and virtualization of cloud platforms such as OpenStack, AWS, VMware, RHV, Docker, or OpenShift / OKD/Kubernetes
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for implementing DoD security guidelines (STIGs)
  • Support automated configurations with Ansible, Salt, Puppet, AWX/Tower, or similar tools
  • Work closely with the IT Director who maintains the overall operations project schedule, budget, resource plan, and deliverables compliance
  • Identify commercial or open-source tools that improve the operability of satellite ground software and SGSS infrastructure
  • Develop tooling that streamlines internal development and QA experiences.
  • Travel, up to 10%
  • Build software for Support Team; build and implement services to improve the quality of support team delivery; improve monitoring and alerting internally and at customer sites in integration, test, and ops

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a US citizen
  • Active DoD SECRET clearance, with ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance
  • Must be DoD 8570 IAT Level 2 compliant
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science/Engineering or other relevant Engineering field from an accredited university or equivalent combination of formal education
  • Minimum 12 years' experience in a professional relevant field
  • 12+ years providing expertise in provisioning physical and virtual servers with Red Hat Satellite including building systems with integration to enterprise tools and components
  • 10+ years of Network Administration or related work experience in supporting, deploying and interconnecting various network technologies at an enterprise scale
    • Includes Hands on working experience with Networking operations systems such as Cisco, Juniper Screen OS and FortiOS. Strong understanding of TCP/IP and LAN/WAN networking
  • 10+ years effectively administering and troubleshooting Linux hosts and networks (load, LVM, RPMs, scripting, DNS, routing, firewalls)
  • 8+ years hands-on expertise with virtualization and cloud platforms such as OpenStack, AWS, VMware, RHV, Docker, or OpenShift/OKD/Kubernetes
  • 8+ years of experience implementing DoD security guidelines (STIGs)
  • 8+ years' experience using tools such as ServiceNow, Jira or other tools for incident management and user support requests
  • 5+ years of experience automating configurations with Ansible, Salt, Puppet, AWX/Tower, or similar
  • 5+ years of experience managing LDAP, especially within Red Hat IDM.
  • Passionate about cybersecurity, cloud technologies, and problem-solving in IT environments
  • Strong technical background in systems administration, cloud deployments and software application support
  • Solid understanding of monitoring and log aggregation: Elasticsearch, Logstash, Beats, Sensu, LibreNMS
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines in GitLab, Jenkins, etc.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience implementing a Development Operations (DevOps) release automation using tools such as ServiceNow, Docker, Puppet, JIRA, Git, and Jenkins
  • Hands on working experience with Juniper networking
  • Experience solutioning high performance storage designs for enterprise SANs employing Fiber Channel network fabric and hybrid-cloud environments
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and changing business needs RedHat certification (Architect or Administrator)
