Job Description

The Educator position is responsible for facilitation of programs and experiences both within Kentucky Science Center  and beyond the flagship facility into the community.  Educators are responsible for engaging all ages in a variety of program settings. An Educator ensures the “Do Science” philosophy of our organization is accessible to all they encounters. The ideal candidate is motivated, outgoing, and flexible with creative interactions through informal teaching and customer service skills to provide an exceptional visitor experience to visitors of all ages

Responsibilities: 

 

  • Facilitate educational programs and experiences including exhibit facilitation, demonstrations, walk-up activities, classes, birthdays, and other specialized programming as assigned.
  • Facilitate educational programming during school, afterschool, and evenings in our offsite or outreach capacity to schools or organizations.
  • Facilitate hands-on activities and promote critical thinking on a diverse array of topics.
  • Staging and restaging interactive exhibit areas to create engaging and inviting spaces for learning.  This may include monitoring program supplies and exhibit components to ensure all programming spaces are “visitor ready” daily.
  • Participate in educator training sessions and attend regular team meetings.
  • Able to contribute to a positive work environment that fosters collaboration, teamwork, and creativity.
  • Able to have excellent customer service.
  • Present educational activities at special events, media/marketing promotions, member events or community events.
  • Practice safety and emergency policies and procedures. Maintain a clean and safe environment for program participants in all Science Center classrooms, labs, and storage areas in cooperation with other team members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • Actively enrolled in a 2 or 4 year college for either science, education, liberal arts, management, or related field and or 1-2 years experience, in some capacity, involving direct public interface or education on a regular basis.
  • Excellent communication and public interaction skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to interact with visitors through informal facilitation.
  • Satisfactory work record in education field such as youth programs, volunteer, or similar community engagement field.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule. 20-25 hours a week that routinely includes weekends and evening hours.
  • Ability to ensure proper use of science equipment, multimedia, technology, and safety procedures, after receiving proper training.
  • A commitment to Kentucky Science Center’s mission, vision, and values.

 



Additional Information
