Job Description:\n\nDescription: Job Title: Radiologic Technologist Department: RadiologyPART I: POSITION OVERVIEW Position Summary: The Radiologic Technologist administers roentgen Rays in the performance of Mammographic, Radiographic, Fluoroscopic procedures, and computed tomography as requested by attending physicians. Under the direction of the Radiologist and Radiology Supervisor the technologist operates radiation producing equipment while utilizing proper radiation protection principles the technologist must be able to interact effectively with patients, their family members, physicians, Radiology Department personnel and facility personnel. The RT must possess the skills and proficiency in all areas of diagnostic in the Radiology Department. Sensitivity and patient confidentiality must be practiced at all times. The Technologist must adhere to the facility and departmental policies established by Winner Regional Healthcare Center. Must have knowledge of DR and PACS. The technologist must participate in QA and QM procedures as directed by Radiology Supervisor. Technologist must possess proficiency in EKG exams. The Radiological Technologist must help in the direction of orientation of new employees or students. Education/Experience: High School Diploma. Completion of formal radiographic technology training in an AMA-approved school. Required Credentials (Licensure, Certification, or Registration): Current ARRT registration. Must maintain continuing education requirements. Employment Variables: The RT works in a clean, well-lighted and ventilated area. Work hours include rotating shifts, weekends and holidays. The Staff technologist may be exposed to communicable diseases, combative patients and radiation. Technologist will take share of call. Initial Tuberculosis (TB) test and drug screening is required by Winner Regional Health. Rubella titer will also be drawn upon hire and immunization is required if no past exposure or indication of immunization. Required to wear name tag provided by WRH and to follow the dress code of WRH. Job Knowledge and Skills: Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to deal with people in a professional manner. General knowledge of anatomy, an understanding of the principles of physics, electricity and methods of exposure to obtain clearly defined films. Knowledge of CT, mammography, EKG’s and general radiology. Must be able to operate all equipment in the department. Demonstrates radiation protection measures for patients, coworkers and self. Competently performs radiographic procedures in ER, OR, and throughout the hospital as needed. Competently performs portable radiographic procedures. Fluoroscopic X-rays/Contrast Administration Prepares exam room, equipment, supplies and dedications as needed for procedures. Prepares contrast agents for use in procedures. Administers IV contrast under direction and supervision of the radiologist. Prepares patient for procedure, assists to proper position and answers concerns before, during and post exam. Acquires appropriate patient history. Explains procedures as needed and follows department policy of obtaining exam consents. Computed Tomography Examinations Exhibits thorough knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and terminology. Evaluates pertinent patient symptoms and applies it to the canning procedure. Understands the administration and use of intravenous contrast. Understand and follows standard protocols designed by radiologist. Interacts with the patient’s physician or supervising radiologist to produce an optimal and deficient study. On a continuum, is cognizant of updates and new procedures in the field of CT. Demonstrates the ability to correctly position patient. Always checks the patient’s chart/request to confirm the orders. Enters correct and accurate information in computer. Charts pertinent data on patient flow sheets. Performs daily quality control and follows guidelines for proper set-up/warm up of equipment. Professionalism Consistently does full share of workload including unassigned or additional duties. Assumes responsibility to direct others as designated by supervisor. Works well under pressure. Clerical Responsibilities Operates department computer for exam scheduling, requisition entry, account billing, film tracking and procedure inquiry information. Orders supplies to specified areas as needed (PFC or OR). Helps at the Reception desk and in the Image Room as needed. Quality Control Performs daily maintenance as required. Understands and follows standard protocols designed by radiologists. Follows guidelines set up for each piece of equipment for QC warm-up and corrective actions. On a continuum, is cognizant of updates and new procedures in the field of diagnostic radiology. Attends QC in-services. Communication Politely and professionally answers phone calls. Properly schedules procedures with hospital departments and physician offices. Assess the daily schedule and adjusts for emergencies. Consistently communicates with proper personnel on future exams. Patient Interactions Checks name band to correlate with procedure order. Provides directions and/or assistance to patients and their family members as needed. Demonstrates sensitivity to the patient and respects their emotional and physical state.
