Overview
Seeking a 6-8 French Language Teacher who employs a variety of teaching methods to engage different learning styles and ability levels in the classroom; prepares motivating and stimulating lessons; demonstrates knowledge of the curriculum, child development; encourages an inclusive classroom that accepts the different perspectives and backgrounds of students and elicits a greater understanding of the world around them. The candidate must be eager to work with students of all abilities in a French immersion public school. Candidates should have native or near-native level fluency and teach predominantly in the target language. International candidates requiring a visa must have a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience and a teaching degree.
Status of Position
This is a full-time position with Académie Lafayette. This is an exempt position pursuant to the U.S. Department of Labor.
Reporting
The French Language Teacher reports to their campus/building principal.
Responsibilities
- Employs a variety of teaching methods to engage different learning styles and ability levels.
- Prepares motivating and stimulating lessons that reflect knowledge of the curriculum, child development, and students’ varying abilities.
- Encourages an inclusive classroom that accepts the different perspectives and backgrounds of students and nurtures them to be globally minded.
- Communicates effectively with parents, colleagues, and administrators and responds promptly to parents’ concerns.
- Utilizes a variety of assessments and student data to inform lessons and instructional activities.
- Creates a learning environment that is positive and engaging, communicates clear expectations, routines and procedures for classwork, homework and assessments.
- Maintains a culture of literacy and inquiry through the use of current literature and other instructional resources that support critical thinking.
- Meets grade reporting deadlines and requirements and follows school-wide procedures for monitoring and providing feedback on student progress.
- Maintains substitute plans and engages substitutes in advance when needed and when possible.
- Continues to engage in professional development opportunities to update knowledge of content area(s).
- Engages in professional goal setting and review process with assigned administrator.
- Attends and participates appropriately in all divisional, and departmental/team faculty meetings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Hold or be eligible for a Missouri Teaching Certificate or equivalent in home country.
- Proven experience as a teacher; international candidates requiring a visa must have a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience.
- Demonstrates strong classroom management skills.
- Experience teaching in an International Baccalaureate program, Middle Years and/or Diploma (MYP/DP) preferred.
- Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills necessary for working in a multicultural environment.
- The ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and to meet deadlines.
- The ability to integrate technology to augment, modify, and redefine learning tasks.
