Summary:

The Development Officer creates, implements, manages, and assesses a comprehensive donor relations plan to assist the Development Department in reaching its strategic fundraising goals for Children’s Hope Alliance. The scope of work includes promoting a culture of engagement across the state of North Carolina through donor engagement, donor recognition, fundraising, stewardship, and strategic communications. The position reports to the Director of Development.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a master event planner for major CHA fundraising events including CHA’s annual Giving Them Hope Luncheon and grow event opportunities in LKN region.
  • Responsible for sponsorship solicitation for fundraising events and securing support to offset event-related expenses.
  • Responsible for strategy, stewardship, and solicitation efforts of a portfolio of Annual Major Gift Donors.
  • Ensures special events are communicated and on the calendar to appropriate staff and targeted guests.
  • Coordinate all donor, volunteer, and community relation events in assigned region--managing event costs vs budget.
  • Identify ways to promote the agency and child advocacy in general. Requires public speaking and serving as agency representative in civic and other community groups.
  • Cultivate existing donor relationships in assigned area. Work to grow the identified giving program and annual fund donations.
  • Acts as a liaison and specialist to Development personnel to provide cultivation, and stewardship and solicitation assistance to individual donors and prospects
  • Identify and solicit donor prospects with the goal of increasing contributions.
  • Record all donor contacts in donor database
  • Assist with volunteer and Gift in Kind activities in assigned region.
  • In conjunction with communications staff, assist with public relations in assigned region.
  • Contribute to department meetings; follow department procedures and practices on donor stewardship/follow-up/reporting.
  • Assist communications staff in gathering success stories, photographs in assigned region.
  • Other tasks as requested by supervisor

Requirements:

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university and/or 5-10 years related experience in Development or Leadership in a non-profit setting
  • Experience with Benevon Fundraising a plus.
  • Strong, collaborative, energetic individual with a deep personal commitment to the highest standards of ethics, confidentiality, and professionalism
  • Results-oriented individual who demonstrates the ability to work well with people at all levels of the organization, develops relationships with diverse constituencies, and employs keen judgment
  • Use of Salesforce Philanthropy Cloud a plus
  • Frequent Evening and Weekend Engagements
  • Must have a willingness to represent the agency to the public
  • Must be detail-oriented, have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Must be customer service oriented and enjoy working with the community
  • Must be culturally sensitive to children and families and support cultural diversity in the organization
  • Must be adept to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, travel around LKN area, and insurable by agency insurance carrier
  • Must submit to and pass pre-employment checks, criminal records check and DMV/MVR checks

  • The employee must occasionally travel to different locations in the course of work.
