Peoria Area Command

Position Title: Holiday Events Coordinator

Job Summary: This year-round, full-time position will work under the direction of the Tri-County Development Director to coordinate the Toys for Tots program and Volunteer Bell Ringer Recruitment and related administrative work, as well as to support the team's efforts on other programs and events during the offseason. The goal is to ensure we increase our holiday fundraising dollars and goods while decreasing our holiday expenses.

Reports To: Tri-County Development Director

Qualifications:

Candidates must have a passion for fulfilling the mission of The Salvation Army and must be articulate in presenting the same to others.

Candidates must successfully pass the pre-employment background inquiry and annual motor vehicle check with a valid driver's license.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, significant related experience may be considered in lieu

of a degree.

Skills:

  • Ability to manage people and projects successfully efficiently and effectively.
  • Team player, self-starter, and performs well with minimal supervision.
  • Must have an interest and ability to work with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Ability to establish policies and procedures, holding others accountable to the same.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and work as a cooperative team member.
  • Demonstrated awareness of budget resources and cost control, as well as planning and administering budgets.
  • Proficiency in computer software applications, including demonstrated experience in using email, MS Office applications, Internet and Social Media platforms.
  • Must be able to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary, especially in emergent situations.

Essential Responsibilities:

Toys for Tots Responsibilities:

  • Local Liaison with National Toys for Tots
  • Create and manage annual plan and timeline
  • Create and lead Toys for Tots Committee that meets throughout the year to keep campaign on track
  • Manage community requests for information and for toy collection barrels.
  • Identify warehousing and present options to leadership
  • Manage warehouse and toy intake and sorting
  • Manage toy inventory and distribution of toys
  • Prepare messaging for press releases and social media; create community presentation; and manage the Toys for Tots website
  • Coordinate special events related to Toys for Tots toy drives
  • Identify volunteer needs and work with Tri-County Special Events & Volunteer coordinator to secure volunteers
  • Manage volunteers while on-site for Toys for Tots
  • Serve on team coordinating Toy Shop with responsibility for toys to be distributed

Volunteer Bell Ringer Recruiter:

  • Lead Volunteer Bell Ringer recruitment in consultation with Tri-County Volunteer Coordinator; work side-by-side with Corps Officers and 360 Directors as volunteers are identified
  • Develop presentations and communication avenues for Bell Ringer opportunities to increase volunteer bell ringer numbers
  • Create publicity and marketing materials for social media and for general communications; work with Tri-County Development Director on placement
  • In partnership with Tri-County Volunteer & Special Events Coordinator, make presentations to area organizations, schools, businesses, etc. regarding volunteer opportunities and to promote the Adopt-A-Kettle program.

Event Coordination:

  • Coordinate special events in Peoria as identified during annual planning with Tri-County Development team with focus on events occurring between February and August.
  • Assist in creation of publicity and marketing materials for social media for special events and general communications throughout the year.

Divisional Expectations

  • Maintain positive work atmosphere through appropriate conflict management, courteous demeanor, and professional and appropriate communication practices.
  • Maintain compliance in The Salvation Army's "Safe from Harm" Certification program and other related trainings as legally required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned as related to work in Development.

Travel may be required.

Position Ranking:

  • Regular Full Time, Exempt

Physical Demands/ Work Environment:

This Position is required to do basic business and office work. To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the individual is regularly required to talk and listen, stand, walk, sit, and use hands. Individual must be able to regularly lift to 50 pounds and occasionally lift to seventy-five pounds. The use of Office and Computer Equipment is necessary. Vision abilities will require close vision. Work may be performed indoors and occasionally require outdoors to attend meetings. There is low to moderate noise level for this position.
