Job Title: State Education Editor

Reports to: Executive Editor

Job Type: Full-time

Georges Media Group, the largest media organization in Louisiana, seeks a state K-12 education editor for its brands The Advocate, The Times-Picayune, The Acadiana Advocate and the Shreveport-Bossier Advocate.

The education editor is a player-coach position that is expected to edit and produce stories about the impact of education policies on K-12 students and educators; student performance, including achievement among different student populations and services provided to those populations; school board politics, the Louisiana Department of Education, the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education; and local public schools, among other topics.

You should be dedicated to helping reporters grow in their craft, have strong communication skills and a good bedside manner, and have strong news judgment. You will also be expected to collaborate across teams. It's a bonus if you have education reporting/editing experience.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field
  • 5 to 10 years of reporting experience. Bonus if you have education reporting experience or past editing experience.
  • Exceptional communication and organization skills.
  • A genuine passion for education reporting and a commitment to informing the community about critical education issues
