THE JESS HOWARD ELECTRIC COMPANY IS A FAMILY-OWNED BUSINESS THAT HAS BEEN DOING ALL PHASES OF ELECTRICAL CONTRACTING WORK SINCE 1945.

We have established lasting relationships with many residential, commercial, and industrial utility customers. We are a unique electrical contractor due to the fact that we perform so many different types of electrical work. We perform residential, commercial, and industrial electrical work, including sports lighting, airport lighting, traffic signal, underground systems, pole-line, and utility work. With over 120 employees and 300 pieces of equipment, there is no job too small or too large for Jess Howard Electric Company.


Position Overview:

The Project Accounting Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing the financial operations and accounting processes related to our projects. This position requires expertise in project accounting, cost control, financial analysis, and reporting. This position works closely with estimators, project managers, the CFO, finance teams, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate financial data, provide insights, and support decision-making processes.


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in project accounting or cost accounting within the construction industry, preferably with electrical contracting projects.
  • Strong knowledge of project accounting principles, revenue recognition, and cost control techniques.
  • Proficient in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Excellent understanding of accounting software and project management tools.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and other MS Office applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Project Accounting Management: Oversee all aspects of project accounting, including the design of and adherence to processes, policies, and procedures of project budgeting, cost tracking, revenue recognition including construction project Work in Process, field payroll, and expense management.
  2. Financial Analysis: Conduct financial analysis to assess project profitability, monitor project budgets, identify cost-saving opportunities, and provide accurate financial forecasts.
  3. Cost Control: Implement effective cost control measures to ensure projects stay within budget and identify potential cost overruns or deviations. Develop strategies for minimizing project expenses while maintaining high-quality standards.
  4. Project Reporting: Prepare timely and accurate financial reports for project stakeholders, including project managers, executives, and clients. Provide meaningful insights into project financial performance, highlighting areas of concern and recommending corrective actions.
  5. Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with CFO, project managers, procurement teams, and other departments to ensure accurate project costing, proper allocation of expenses, and effective communication of financial information.
  6. Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and enhance project accounting processes, systems, and controls to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and maintain accuracy.
  7. Training and Support: Provide guidance, training, and support to project teams on financial processes, policies, and tools to enhance their understanding and compliance with accounting practices.
  8. Compliance and Audit: Ensure adherence to relevant accounting standards, regulations, and company policies. Coordinate with internal and external auditors during project audits and reviews.
