INTRINSIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide speech therapy treatment of speech-language disorders and other related activities to patients as assigned by the attending Speech Language Pathologist and in strict compliance with the established evaluation and or Plan of Care and per the supervision requirements mandated by state law or payor regulations, whichever is more stringent.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION:

  • Provide patient treatment, instruction and other related services following the Speech Language Pathologist’s evaluation and establishment of the patient’s plan of care and/or goals.
  • Report all significant outcomes of patient treatments to the Speech Language Pathologist for intervention and/or plan of care revision
  • Maintain necessary documentation including daily patient progress notes, home/exercise instructions and any other support entries allowed by State statute in coordination with supervising SLP.
  • Document the name of the supervising Speech Language Pathologist per patient as required by State statute
  • Report all patient care activities performed requiring program modification immediately to the Speech Language Pathologist
  • Assist with and/or carry out routine cleaning, maintenance and support operations of the clinic’s physical plant, patient care equipment and supplies in accordance with regulatory standards and EHS policies and procedures
  • Carry out EHS duties as designated by policy and/or by the President/Vice-President and/or the Director of Clinical Services.
  • Comply with the Facility’s Comprehensive Compliance Plan (CCP) which includes but is not limited to: Business & Clinical Operations, Environmental Health & Safety, HIPAA, Human Resources and Code of Conduct as well as all facility policies and procedures and educational requirements associated the CCP
  • Comply with all local, state and federal regulations training and instruction requirements as well as any other standards that govern healthcare services provision
  • Perform other duties as assigned as permitted by law & training

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of a bachelor’s degree/four-year Speech Language Pathology Assistant Program approved by the Council of the Academic Accreditation American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA)
  • Licensed to practice as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant in Texas
  • A person who demonstrates the physical and mental capabilities (practical &/or written, post-training competency test) to perform the duties required of the position
  • A person who can meet the physical demand level of the position

PHYSICAL DEMAND CAPACITY:

  • Consistent with published industry PDC norms or minimally:
  • Sitting routinely for uninterrupted periods of 45-60 minutes
  • Lifting occasionally light loads (5-10 pounds)
  • Bending & reaching for patient access and positioning

EXPOSURE DETERMINATION:

  • Has the potential for Hazardous Substance Exposure due to work duties
  • Has the potential for Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure due to work duties

HIPAA STATUS:

  • Has been determined as eligible for access to/use of PHI & EPHI based on work duties and responsibilities in compliance with ‘minimal necessary’ standards
