Job Description
Job Summary\n
In preparation for a successful career as a Bus Operator, the ESL trainee will:
\n- \n
- Increase English proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing through active class participation. \n
- Master key vocabulary and concepts related to operating and maintaining commercial vehicles. \n
- Refine customer service skills in English through a variety of communication simulations. \n
- Get to know the UTA Way, our organizational culture, and develop camaraderie with peers. \n
- Participate in an eight-week training program. \n
- \n
- At least 21 years of age. \n
- Ability to work in the US. \n
- Safe driver with a valid Utah driver license and no more than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years. \n
- No convictions for driving under the influence of alcohol or any drugs within the past 10 years. \n
- For safety sensitive positions it is required to obtain and maintain a Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card (paid by UTA) \n
- One year in a customer service role with ability to solve problems and resolve customer inquiries. \n
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
\n- \n
- High school or equivalent diploma, preferred. \n
- Demonstrated intermediate English proficiency in reading and writing with a level 4 or higher on the CASAS assessment. \n
EXPERIENCE:
\n\nSkills:
\n- \n
- Communicate with supervisors and customers and maintain good interpersonal relations, both orally and over the radio, in English with support \n
Abilities:
\n- \n
- Operate all passenger buses safely. \n
- Report for assigned shifts on time. \n
- Perform the physical requirements of the job to include regular walking, floor to waist lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally/carrying up to 15 lbs. occasionally, reaching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, crouching, balancing, bending, and prolonged periods of sitting and standing. \n
- This job requires regular and predictable attendance. \n

Shift: 8:00 am - 3:15 pm Monday through Thursday (Shift & Days Off Subject to Change)
