Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our Proposal Development team as a Manager!

About the role

In this role, you will lead a dynamic team of Proposal Consultants in the development of persuasive and comprehensive responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Requests for Information (RFIs) for our Workforce Benefits Products (Life, Absence, Disability, Accident Insurance, Critical Illness, Hospital Indemnity).

You will collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders to gather necessary information and insights for proposal development. You will also ensure proposals are delivered on time and in accordance with established quality standards, paying meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.

What you will do

  • Lead a team of Proposal Consultants, providing day-to-day management and guidance to increase their potential and foster a culture of collaboration and innovation.
  • Partner with a dedicated content owner to ensure the accuracy, relevance, and effectiveness of the content used by the proposal team, continuously refining, and updating resources as needed.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with sales & service, product, underwriting, operations, claims, and law to capture insights and information for crafting tailored proposal responses.
  • Drive the development of persuasive and comprehensive proposals for group life, absence, disability, and supplemental health insurance products, aligning content with client needs and organizational objectives.
  • Lead all aspects of the proposal management process from inception to delivery, ensuring adherence to deadlines, quality standards, and best practices.
  • Define clear performance metrics and goals for the team, regularly monitoring progress and providing constructive feedback to drive accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of our product offerings, competitive positioning, and value proposition.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, market dynamics, and regulatory changes impacting workforce benefits, using insights to advise proposal strategies and enhance competitive positioning.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on proposal management and provide guidance, training, and support to team members to elevate their skills and capabilities.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives by driving efficiencies, streamlining processes, and enhancing overall performance.
  • Analyze proposal outcomes and metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to enhance the skills and capabilities of the proposal writing team.
  • Participate in strategic projects as needed.

Compensation

Salary Range: $82,900 - $138,100 plus eligibility for annual bonus program

Your experience and skills

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Group Insurance with LAD and Supplemental Health required.
  • Strong project management skills to effectively coordinate proposal development stages, meet deadlines, and optimize resource allocation.
  • Exceptional communication abilities to articulate proposal strategies, provide clear guidance to team members, foster collaboration with stakeholders, and assist in problem-solving.
  • Attention to detail to ensure accuracy and compliance of proposal submissions with client requirements and industry standards.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills to anticipate challenges, identify solutions, and drive innovation in proposal approaches.
  • Leadership capabilities to inspire and motivate the team, foster a culture of excellence, actively facilitate resolution of any issues or concerns that arise, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Adaptability and resilience to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, where priorities may shift rapidly, and challenges may arise unexpectedly.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred but not required.
