Position Summary:
The Youth Programs Associate is responsible for supporting the Youth Programs & Outreach Manager, supporting and promoting US Sailing's youth programs, products, and initiatives and supporting local sailing organizations (LSO's). Key areas of responsibility include the Small Boat Instructor Certification programs, Reach Initiative (STEM), the Social Emotional Learning Programs (SEL), Community Sailing, as well as establishing and maintaining strong partnerships with youth sailing organizations and stakeholders.

In collaboration with staff and volunteers from across US Sailing, the Youth Programs Associate plays a crucial role in delivering expert guidance, resources, and service to US Sailing members and member organizations.

What you'll be doing:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Youth Outreach
  • Be the point of contact to Intro to Sailing and Youth stakeholders, especially new or developing centers. This includes, but is not limited to, phone calls and resource emails.
  • Conduct outreach to US Sailing LSO's:
  • Proactively engage with key stakeholders to support US Sailing's mission to grow Youth sailing in the United States.
  • Create and send out annual surveys to assess needs for youth-related programs and process results for action items.
  • Work with IT department to make changes as necessary to database and/or websites.
  • Update and consolidate Youth Programs & Outreach file sharing and digital records.
  • Assist with the agenda development and logistics for both Sailing Leadership Forum and NSPS.
  • Attendance at the follow events, if required -
    • National Faculty
    • SLF
    • NSPS
    • Occasional Boat Shows or regional events

Small Boat Instructor Certification Programs
  • Via outreach and promotion, lead connection to LSO's and prospective instructors with Small Boat programs (prospective course hosts and prospective participants) ensuring that US Sailing provides adequate opportunities for instructors to be trained to meet the needs of sailing organizations and the sailing community.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Education departments to fill open Small Boat courses.
  • Collect and review feedback on courses, publications, and resources gathered from sailing community stakeholders.
  • Responsible for Instructor recertification process.
  • Oversight of inventory as it relates to Small Boat programs.
  • Collaborate with US Sailing Staff and volunteers in developing curriculum, resources, and training materials for students, Instructor Candidates, Instructor Trainers, and Master Instructor Trainers, as required.
  • Participate in National Faculty group meetings, as required.
Community Sailing
  • Be the point of contact to Community Sailing programs, especially new or developing centers. This includes, but is not limited to, phone calls and resource emails.
  • Support the staff liaison to the Community Sailing Committee - the Youth Programs & Outreach Manager.
  • Schedule and attend all Community Sailing Committee meetings and Subcommittee meetings
  • Support annual Community Sailing Accreditation Dues invoices.
  • Support delivery of the annual Community Sailing Awards.
  • Oversight of inventory as it relates to Community Sailing Accreditation, awards, and programs.
  • Seek out vendors for specific programs and events - i.e. awards and soft goods.
Reach Initiative (STEM)
  • Via outreach and promotion, connect LSO's and prospective participants with the Reach Educator Courses and Reach publications.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Education departments to fill open Reach Educator courses.
  • Oversight of inventory as it relates to the Reach Initiative.
  • Seek out vendors for Reach specific programs and events - i.e. awards and soft goods.
  • Support the Reach grant program, including grant design, application design, selection, data collection, and annual reporting.
  • Schedule, attend, and take meeting minutes for Reach Grant Selection and Reach Advisory Group meetings.
  • Collaborate with US Sailing Staff and volunteers in developing curriculum, resources, and training materials for students, Reach Educators, Reach Instructor Trainers, Reach Master Instructor Trainers, and partner organizations, as required.

Social Emotional Learning Programs (SEL)
  • Support SEL-related activities at US Sailing.
  • Attend SEL Advisory Group meetings to review Siebel Sailors Program 1.0 and rebuild the program in line with the available resources to continue US Sailing's work in the SEL space.
  • Communicate with and support volunteers in developing student curriculum, instructor resources, and training materials in the SEL space, as required.
  • Contribute to the development of SEL resources and programs
Who you are:
  • Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Experience in community sailing programs, sail training programs, and coaching/instructing (prior experience and familiarity with US Sailing and US Powerboating programming preferred).
  • Experience in curriculum development.
  • Experience in project management, operations, and product development.
  • A detail-orientated customer service professional.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to network and market programs to US Sailing constituents.
  • Must possess excellent organizational and prioritization skills along with the ability to multi-task and problem-solve.
  • Work both independently and within a team, including between departments.
  • Minimum education - bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiarity with all forms of office equipment.
