Job Description

The Food Service Specialist (FSS) is responsible for the planning of all menus and for the preparation of evening meals on weekdays, providing breakfast and lunch items for residents to prepare for themselves daily, and developing a weekend dinner plan to be carried out by weekend staff. 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • The FSS will create a food and supply order adequate to prepare meals for weekday dinners and various holiday/special events, as well as supplies and groceries for breakfast, lunches, and weekend dinners. 

  • The FSS manages the kitchen areas and the residents working in the kitchen efficiently. 

  • The FSS is responsible for the general cleanliness and order of the kitchen and the dining areas, all equipment, refrigerator, coolers, stove, and storage areas. 

  • The FSS will plan meals on a weekly basis after consultation with the Program Director in order to provide wholesome, appetizing, and healthy meals, including substitutions for those with food allergies or religious beliefs. 

  • The FSS orders perishable food and kitchen supplies weekly. 

  • The FSS will prepare and cook all foods to be served during the weekly scheduled dinner times. 

  • The FSS supervises the dining room set-up and assures its readiness for meals. 

  • The FSS will notify the Program Director of the need for repair and/or replacement of equipment. 

  • The FSS keeps records and accounts of all purchases and supplies.  

  • The FSS checks deliveries of food and kitchen supplies against the invoice for accuracy.  These must be submitted to the Program Director as appropriate in the billing process. 

  • The FSS picks up any other necessary day-to-day food supplies. 

  • Performs other duties as assigned.  

Qualifications: The candidate will hold a current and valid Food Preparatory/Food Safety Certification (Serve Safe) and a Certified Allergen Awareness Training Certificate. The FSS should have a minimum of two years of experience in food preparation and service. Applicants with basic knowledge in substance use and co-occurring disorders, regarding the role of a residential recovery home environment is a plus. The candidate must have excellent communication skills, be able to demonstrate cultural competence and carry out all duties in compliance with HIPAA and 42CFR Part 2. The candidate must hold a valid driver’s license. The candidate must be able to pass a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) check and the Adam Walsh/CPS Background Check.

Supervision Received:  The FSS is supervised by the Program Director 

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 11:00 am-7:00 pm
