Job Title: Research Farm Maintenance Technician – SePRO Research & Technology Campus

Location: Whitakers, North Carolina

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a Research Farm Maintenance Technician to support the SePRO Research team by providing day-to-day maintenance of farm/turf equipment, research facilities, and land at the SePRO Research and Technology Campus (SRTC) in Whitakers, North Carolina.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage, maintain, and repair equipment used for farm and research operations (tractors, tillage equipment, planters, mowers, sprayers, irrigation equipment, trucks, boats), ensuring equipment is safe and ready for use to conduct research trials in a timely manner.
  • Serve as focal point for general maintenance of research facilities and buildings (research fields, research labs in Admin Building, Field/Formulation lab, greenhouse); schedule and implement repairs and preventative maintenance including routine checks, repair of electrical equipment, HVAC minor maintenance, painting, plumbing, welding, concrete work, and carpentry.
  • Maintain accurate service records on all equipment and facilities.
  • Ensure the SRTC equipment, buildings, and grounds are kept “show ready” to host external visitors and tours.
  • Assist Research Scientists/Associates with field, greenhouse, and lab research studies as necessary (for example, planting, treatment application, data collection, etc.).

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent / technical school a plus.
  • Experience with safely operating and maintaining farm and turf equipment (tractors, tillage equipment, planters, mowers, sprayers, irrigation equipment, etc.), including trouble-shooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and hydraulics systems.
  • Knowledge of facilities and building maintenance, with a willingness to engage necessary local vendors to complete repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Experience in coordinating and executing crop production practices, nursery/ornamental production, and/or turf operations (field prep/tillage, planting, soil and plant fertility, pest management, irrigation management, etc.) a plus.
  • Ability to work independently, schedule and prioritize tasks, and solve problems as they arise.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with a team.
  • Willingness to work hours required for successful farm management (hours will vary by season, with spring and summer being more busy).
