Job Description

The Foreman is responsible for managing a crew and for the successful completion of specific construction activities.  The Foreman leads and establishes good relationships with all crew members, superintendents, and other field personnel.  This individual’s role is to support the General Foreman or the Project Superintendent in the planning and execution of our labor, equipment, and materials that go into the construction. 

 

   Qualifications and Essential Skills

Professional

·         Experience supervising self-perform labor crews in specific tasks (e.g. carpentry, concrete forms, concrete placement, welding, pile driving, cofferdams, structural steel, heavy lifting, and/or wind turbine erection)

·         Able to supervise a crew up to eight members

  • Good communication skills with the ability to manage and positively motivate a crew
  • Possess problem solving skills, a strong work ethic, and a positive attitude
  • Willing to work on jobsite as a working foreman
  • Exhibit good leadership skills

 

  Technical

  • Read and understand drawings
  • Ability to read and write
  • Understand basics, logic, and sequencing of putting work in place
  • Ability to lay out work from given points
  • Knowledge in various construction methods and the proper use of construction equipment
  • Minimum of OSHA 30 hour training course
  • CPR and first aid trained
  • Certifications as a Qualified Signal Person and a Qualified Rigger
  • Possess valid driver’s license

 

  Experience

  • Field construction experience in various construction methods
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent with 3-7 years of progressiveconstruction experience
  • Demonstrate a history of safe work practices

 

Responsibilities

Construction Administration

·         Plan work activities on a daily basis; able to look and plan ahead

·         Plan, work, and coordinate with other foremen and the Project Superintendent

·         Productively lead a crew to complete specific tasks

·         Responsible for quality assurance related to specific activities

·         Lead by example regarding Company policies (e.g. be on site 15-30 minutes prior to start-up; set timeliness of breaks (lunch and coffee); and no unexcused absences)

·         Maintain neat, orderly work areas that are safe and secure

 

Personnel

·         Supervise, work with, and positively motivate crew members

·         Explain and demonstrate procedures of work to employees

 

Materials

·         Communicate material requirements to the General Foreman or Project Superintendent in a timely manner

·         Assist in receiving, inspecting and properly storing all site deliveries

 

Equipment

·         Assist coordinating equipment maintenance and repairs on project

·         Communicate equipment requirements to the General Foreman or Project Superintendent in a timely manner

·         Help ensure that equipment is used properly and safely, and operated by qualified personnel

 

Safety

·         Enforce job site safety with crew members

·         Work with General Foreman and Project Superintendent to communicate and  implement the project safety plan

·         Fill out daily JSA forms and participate in communicating specific safety focus activities to their crews

·         Able to participate in safety meetings as required by the Project Superintendent

·         This is a safety sensitive function

 

Physical Requirements:

·         Lift and carry up to 100 pounds of tools or construction materials occasionally and up to 50 pounds frequently.

·         Manipulate both large and small hand tools.

·         Use arms and hands to reach for, handle and manipulate objects

·         Must be in good physical condition with the ability to bend, twist, squat frequently.

·         Must be able to stand or walk for long periods

·         Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and see (naturally or with correction)
