POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Requirements:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensures Y is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintains upkeep of assigned areas and equipment. May perform wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, painting, vacuuming, seasonal activities dealing with landscape care and snow removal, and general cleaning. Clean bathrooms, locker rooms, showers, lobby, hallways, and common areas.
  • Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment.
  • Records and reports all needed repairs; repairs as directed.
  • Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.
  • Replaces soap, paper towels, and other supplies.
  • May set up furniture for events.
  • Uphold safety and Child Protection standards per Y policies.
  • Attend staff meetings and other meetings and trainings as required
  • Maintain a professional appearance and manner reflective of Y standards.
  • Is committed to maintaining a workplace free from all forms of harassment
  • Adheres to policies related to boundaries with youth.
  • Attends required abuse risk management training.
  • Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Adheres to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
  • Ensures unused rooms and closets remain locked; routinely monitors high-risk locations (locker-rooms and bathrooms), etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum six months experience in facility cleaning
  • Ability to use equipment and chemicals in prescribed manner
  • Ability to read labels, MSDS information sheets, and instructions
  • Ability to stay alert to potential safety and security problems
  • Ability to carry out instructions independently
  • Ability to get along with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Must meet all Association-Wide training requirements in addition to those set forth by their Supervisor.
  • Must be able to pass a Nationwide Criminal and Sex Offender Registry Background Screening.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to erect and stand on ladders and platforms such as to change light bulbs and clean fans at heights of up to 10 feet.

  • Ability to clean equipment, and operate motorized equipment as needed.
  • Ability to work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.
  • Ability to perform essential maintenance to facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: semi – reaching to full-reach overhead; crouching; kneeling; shoveling; carrying, working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and lying on stomach and/or back.
  • Must have adequate vision to effectively review documents in varied formats i.e.…paper and digital
  • Must have adequate hearing to respond to members and interact with the public.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to: climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for an extended period of time, climb ladders, walk, shovel snow, plow snow, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity.
  • The work is performed both indoors and out, and may require travel to various locations.
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
