POSITION SUMMARY: The Interpreter is responsible for translating languages between Head Start staff and Spanish-speaking participants as directed by the staff. Must be culturally sensitive and treat all program participants with respect. Must know of and support the Agency’s mission, vision, and code of ethics and the strategic plan for helping people, and changing lives. No overtime may be worked without prior authorization from the Head Start Director. Must comply with drug and alcohol-free workplace policy. Position contingent upon continued program funding. Hiring is subject to Policy Council approval. Head Start parents will be given preference.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL:

  • Provide complete and accurate interpretation for clients and staff to facilitate communication and decision-making through informed consent.
  • Assist the company with written and oral communication as needed.
  • Maintains Confidentiality according to agency policy/procedures.
  • Develop translated forms and educational materials for the non-English speaking population as needed.
  • Responds to translations/interpretation requests (via email, phone, text) in a timely manner.
  • Keeps timely, accurate records of all interpretation encounters and develops and maintain records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS ESSENTIAL:

  • Demonstrated ability to accurately and objectively interpret conversations and to translate written materials into Spanish and English
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • One (1) year of related experience is required.
  • Must speak, read, and write English and Spanish fluently.
  • Must pass physical health and criminal background checks prior to being hired.
