Warbird Consulting Partners actively seeks experienced candidates for the role of Controller & Finance Director for a hospital in New York. Reporting to the CFO, the Controller/Finance Director is responsible for providing financial guidance of the Hospital to ensure the proper utilization and safeguarding of its physical and financial assets. Further, the Finance Director will ensure the financial statements present fairly the financial position of the Hospital and that these reports are prepared in conformity with GAAP. As a member of the management team, he/she will participate in the development and implementation of general Hospital policies, goals, and plans.

  • Formulate goals and objectives and have overall responsibility for directing the operations of the Finance Department including hiring, training, assigning work to, evaluating, and (when necessary) recommending the discipline and discharge of subordinate personnel.
  • Working with the President, the Board of Directors, Chief Financial Officer, System Finance leaders, and all appropriate committees, formulate, recommend, and administer Hospital-wide financial and related policies and procedures.
  • Working through subordinate personnel, responsible for maintaining all necessary financial records and producing all financial reports required by the corporation, the Board of Directors, the Administration, appropriate committees, and external agencies.
  • Responsible for the oversight and performance of all payroll-related activities of the organization, including all new and ongoing IRS and NYS regulatory requirements associated with payroll reporting requirements, improvements in organizational payroll practices, and participation in relevant payroll committees.
  • Responsible for the oversight and performance of treasury management functions of the organization, including oversight of banking and investment management functions, reconciliation of bank and investment accounts, and interactions with the System Accounts Payable function.
  • Evaluate all existing accounting systems and procedures to ensure that adequate controls over Hospital assets exist and recommend changes to improve the system. Ensure Hospital compliance with the accounting rules and regulations that the various regulatory bodies prescribe.
  • Advise the Chief Financial Officer in all matters pertaining to finance, such as accounts receivable valuations, rate increases, financial reporting, budgets, cash flow, investments, contracts, and capital expenditures.
  • Manages the annual Operating and Capital Budget process; has input in the preparation of an operating budget for the Hospital based on numerous criteria including regulatory requirements and reimbursement from third parties. Monitor and support cost center leadership of the various cost centers for compliance with the established budget.
  • Review and evaluate all State and Federal reimbursement issues, reports and rates.
  • Coordinate and monitor all grant activity within the organization to verify that all grant funds are used appropriately, all reporting is done timely, and audits are completed as required.
  • Collaborate with Financial leaders in the alignment and standardization of accounting policies and procedures, financial reporting processes and outputs, cost accounting processes and outputs, and other department functions for consistency and workflow efficiency across the System.
  • Participate in the acquisition, negotiation, selection, and ongoing reporting for debt financing arrangements, including outreach, accumulating and organizing proposals, preparing cash flow analysis, and ongoing covenant reporting.
  • Serves as a member of the management group and reviews and makes recommendations regarding key Hospital policies/development/activities. Serves as a resource person to other senior management personnel on specific finance-related problems.
  • Assist with setting up reports in Workday.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting or finance, or an Associate's Degree with requisite experience to support the level of knowledge necessary for the position.
  • A CPA or MBA Degree is preferable.
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of progressively more responsible experience in financial management including accounting, budgeting, financial planning, auditing, receivables control, and so forth in a healthcare environment. A high level of analytical ability is required to plan, direct, and control the financial activities of the Hospital.
