JOB SUMMARY – This entry to intermediate level position is responsible for learning the procedures and techniques involved in the heat treating of tape wound magnetic cores.

REPORTS TO: Department Supervisor

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

· Observes senior Heat Treat Worker conducting various tasks to learn procedures and techniques.

· Reads process sheet for rack and plating instructions.

· Racks and plates cores placing bolts through plate holes and tightening nut with impact wrench.

· Uses vertical and horizontal presses to rack and plate cores using ratchet or impact wrench to tighten bolts connecting plates.

· Loads and unloads parts onto furnace manually or with hoist.

· Loads parts onto furnace, or into oven; following any specific directions on process sheet.

· Submits parts to Quality Lab for pretest before sending parts on to Impregnation.

· On occasion, breaks cores before sending on to Impregnation Department.

· Inspects work in progress to confirm parts are being built to specifications; returning parts to previous department to re-work, if needed, or verifying parts are in compliance before passing on to next department.

· Labels secondary containers per Hazardous Communication Plan.

· Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

· Continually increases knowledge of Heat Treat Department to include those skills required to advance to Heat Treat Worker II status.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:

· English language, preferred.

· Mathematics; addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, preferred.

· Hand, power tools, machinery used in manufacturing work.

· Hazards and safety precautions used in the manufacturing industry, preferred.

· Chemical handling and safety procedures, preferred.

· Forklifts, cranes, hoists, and other material handling equipment, preferred.

· Fire extinguishers, preferred.

Skills:

· Reading, writing and speaking in the English language, preferred.

· Perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in order to calculate quantities, measures, weights, etc.

· Use and care of forklift, crane, hoist, hand tools or other equipment needed to perform duties.

Ability to:

· Know the level of quality expected in the products being heat treated; identify when such quality is not being achieved and reporting to senior Heat Treat Worker or Supervisor.

· Read and understand process sheets.

· Effectively communicate in the English language, preferred.

· Pass forklift certification written and practical tests.

· Perform basic mathematical computations accurately.

· Learn principles of fire extinguishers and when and how to use them in a fire situation.

· Safely operate all tools and equipment.

· Perform job accurately with attention to detail.

· Work with chemicals.

· Keep a positive attitude; especially when working under pressure.

· Maintain positive working relationships with other employees.

· Follow through with tasks, especially those requesting assistance or input.

· Fill out required reports and logs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Standing, bending, twisting, stooping, walking, speaking clearly, seeing, hearing. Remaining in a standing position for extended periods of time. Making precise coordinated movements of the fingers, of one or both hands to grasp, and work with very small objects. Coordinate the movement of more than one limb simultaneously. Climbing ladder attached to equipment. Making continuous or repetitive arm-hand movements. Reaching with arm above shoulder level and in front of body. Grasping power tools and maintaining static arm-hand position. Good hand-eye coordination; arm, hand and finger dexterity. Making controlled manipulations of small objects. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and grasp and move heavy objects (50 pounds or more) short distances (5 feet or less). Seeing details at close range. Exposure to sharp edges of cores may cause nicks or cuts to skin. Contact with hot cores may produce burns to skin. Working safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment which can be dusty and there is a possibility of exposure to chemical fumes and/or gaseous fumes emitting from passing forklifts. Eye safety glasses are required to be worn in the plant. Loose clothing and hanging jewelry are not to be worn around machinery. Also, safety shoes are to be worn when hands-on work is being performed in the plant area. Due to forklifts being used in the plant, cracks may appear on the floor, causing an uneven walking surface. Floors may be slippery due to wet weather or processes involving water.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or equivalent preferred with one or more years experience in a manufacturing environment, preferred.
