Position Summary:

  • Will be responsible for overseeing elderly client caseload in need of services. The Safe and Secure Advocate will have contact with elderly clients in various situations. Safe and Secure Advocate will act as an advocate for clients in all areas of their lives to address elderly abuse, neglect and exploitation, as appropriate. Safe and Secure Advocate will interact with various necessary community agencies. Will be responsible for community outreach and education in their assigned area.

  • Salary Rate: $42,500


Duties And Responsibilities:

Advocate Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Complete Assessments
  2. Define Client-Center Objectives
  3. Develop Individual Care Plans
  4. Collaborate with community resources
  5. Documentation of all outcomes
  6. Provide advocate support to link clients to services and to provide appropriate housing in a safe environment for clients.
  7. Establish an appropriate and effective support system for clients.
  8. Maintain contact with client, service providers and client’s family members, as appropriate.
  9. Develop and conduct community outreach and education related to elder abuse and neglect.
  10. On-call responsibilities on a rotating basis.


General Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Complete annual Court/Social Security/VA reports on a timely basis.
  2. Complete all agency and contractual paperwork on a timely basis, keep clients records updated and current, and provide all necessary paperwork required to prove that services are being provided.
  3. Follow contract and best practice guidelines for clients regarding home visitation and personal contact.
  4. Advocate for client’s needs in the capacity assigned.
  5. Responsible for On-call phone as assigned by director.
  6. Serve on agency committees as assigned.
  7. Will attend CPR and First Aid trainings and will keep certifications current.
  8. Will attend all mandated trainings required and will keep certifications current.
  9. Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  1. Ability to complete multiple duties and tasks correctly and on time without being prompted.
  2. Ability to learn and use program specific computer applications.
  3. Ability to work with team members and others to research, plan and implement initiatives to develop new and existing services.
  4. Ease with Public speaking
  5. Possess excellent communication, organizational and writing skills.
  6. Ability to work with a diverse population of clients and community systems.
  7. Knowledge of community resources.
  8. Willingness to complete training regarding Elder Abuse.


Minimum Education and Experience:

  1. BA in Human Services related field required.
  2. Prior experience working with elderly community is preferred.
  3. Ability to use Information Technology, including the internet, social media, Microsoft Office Suite products.


Special Conditions of Employment:

  1. Valid Driver’s License, a working motor vehicle, and proof of current vehicle insurance.
  2. Undergo and successfully pass a State of Michigan LIEN Check and Central Registry Clearance.
  3. Pre-Employment Drug and Alcohol Screen.
  4. Negative TB Test upon hire with follow-up TB tests as required by Caring Connection policy.
  5. Undergo a background check with no recent felony convictions and no abuse/neglect convictions.
  6. During On-Call phone rotation, must have the ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings, weekends and holidays, as necessary.
