JOB SUMMARY

The Chemical Technician – Green Cement responsibilities will be testing coal combustion by-products, natural pozzolans and concrete mixes. These tests will include standard physical testing procedures for cementitious and raw material products. The testing will include SAI cubes (C109 etc.) and concrete cylinders, general concrete mixing - testing, x-ray fluorescence, carbon analysis, moisture analysis, specific gravity by helium pycnometer and basic bench chemistry tests such as titrations and particle size analysis. All tests will be performed following ASTM and PozzoSlag Plant standard operating procedures (SOPs) and other job assignments as determined by the management of the Plant and GCI Technical Directors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Comply with EcoMaterial Safety Policies and Procedures
  • Ability to learn instrument applications.
  • Work with Lab Supervisor and Plant Manager to coordinate daily activities for concrete, physical/chemical testing.
  • Ensure testing is performed on a timely basis and that all ASTM procedures and SOPs are strictly followed.
  • Other duties and responsibilities related to the position may be assigned on a temporary or permanent basis as needed to meet testing and production performance needs.
  • Regular attendance, timeliness, and scheduling flexibility.
  • Ability to perform concrete mixes and designs or ability to learn the procedures.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • ACI Field I or II Concrete Lab Testing certification or obtain within year 1.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Strong math skills
  • Must possess sound, fundamental lab techniques and demonstrate good organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Self-motivated
  • Work well without supervision

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

The employee should have the following:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 0 - 2 years’ experience in functional role
  • Experience with analytical instrumentation preferred

The employee should possess the ability to:

  • Prolong standing or in stationary position.
  • Complete repetitive movements such as keyboard use.
  • May be exposed to sounds or noise levels that could be uncomfortable for short durations.
  • Complete repetitive movements
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment (hearing, vision, and hardhat protection)
  • Lift/move/transport items up to fifty pounds
  • Ability to move or traverse about the facilities.
  • Must be able to ascend/descend stairs or ladders.
  • Ability to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances, and in various environmental conditions.
