LIFEGUARD

Where: HFH Summer Camps are located an hour north of New York City, on the grounds of the 52,000-acre Harriman State Park. A lush preserve of woodland and lakes straddling New York’s Rockland and Orange counties, the park has over 200 miles of trails, 31 lakes and reservoirs, camping grounds, beaches, and an abundance of wildlife.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receive training on the Aquatic Policy, routines, and expectations of both swim lessons and group free swim.
  • Lead pool activities and lessons.
  • Clearly differentiate skill levels and expectations according to the age group of the children.
  • Assist each child with developing swim skill goals to accomplish by the end of their session at camp.
  • Document and distribute each child’s progress and swim levels at the end of each swim lesson.
  • Model program participation and appropriate camper interaction.
  • Assist with camp activities including all-camp day, rainy day, and all evening activities.
  • Supervise the health and safety for campers of the cabin group.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Desire to work and live in the outdoors from June 14th to August 9th, 2024.
  • Minimum 18 years of age. High School Diploma, preferably enrolled in college level program.
  • Minimum two years (or two summers) experience supervising/lifeguarding children (age 5-
  • 12 years).
  • CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Lifeguard Training or a recognized equivalent. WSI preferred.

ADDITIONAL ITEMS NEEDED:

  • Three letters of reference
  • Ability to pass a background check, physical exam and be up to date on all required immunizations.

  • Tuesday June 11th: Administration & EMT’s Start Day
  • Wednesday June 12th: Camp Power Start Day
  • Friday June 14th: Lifeguards & Unit Leaders Start Day
  • Tuesday June 18th: General Counselors & Activity Specialist Start Day
  • Friday August 9th: Last Day for all Staff
