Position Summary:

The Reference Librarian will provide timely, cost-effective and thorough responses to research requests utilizing a variety of electronic and print resources. This position shares responsibility for a number of tasks including: the electronic dissemination of vital information in legal and non-legal newsletters and publications as well as case, statute, and regulatory updates; maintaining information found in the library catalog; and orienting and training attorneys and professional staff.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide reference and research services to attorneys, paralegals and staff utilizing a variety of electronic and print resources.
  • Electronic dissemination of vital information in legal and non-legal newsletters and publications as well as case, statute, and regulatory updates; maintaining information found in the library catalog; and orienting and training attorneys and professional staff.
  • Perform and participate in special projects as assigned by the Library Services Manager. Occasionally participate in the physical upkeep and organization of the Library.
  • Develop, coordinate and implement promotion of library and research services through user instruction, departmental presentations, development of pathfinders and other training materials for all levels of users as new initiatives and training needs arise.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated proficiency using common print and online resources such as Lexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, Lex Machina, Checkpoint, CourtLink, VitalLaw, and PACER
  • Advanced knowledge of legal and non-legal research techniques using print and electronic resources
  • Strong emphasis on customer service and satisfaction
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Ability to complete multiple, complex projects under tight time constraints
  • Strong analytical skills

Education and Experience:

  • Master's degree in related discipline required. Master’s of Library and Information Services preferred.
  • 5 - 7 years of experience in similar field required. 5+ years experience in law firm (or similar) environment preferred.
