Lighting Technician

On-Call/ Non-Exempt - $300-$350 per show depending on experience.

COMMUNITY PROFILE

Sun City Anthem (SCA) is a Del Webb developed community located in Henderson, Nevada just south of Las Vegas. Developed in 1998, it is the state’s second largest Common Interest Community, and the City of Henderson is the second largest city in the state with 300,000 residents. The beautiful and expansive SCA community covers 3,500 acres with 7,144 homes. SCA has approximately 12,500 total residents.

The community is governed by a seven-member Board of Directors that typically serve two-year terms. Amenities and facilities include three clubhouses with 130,000 square feet of indoor recreational space including three indoor swimming pools, two outdoor pools, tennis courts, pickle ball, bocce, 300 seat performing arts theatre, fitness centers, group exercise rooms, privately owned and operated day spa, and a grand ballroom.

SCA has nearly 60 chartered clubs and operates its own television station. SCA maintains a Community Patrol, a Community Service Group, a Neighborhood Watch Program, and an Emergency Preparedness Service Group.

POSITION SUMMARY

This is an on-call staff position reporting directly to the Activities Director. This position serves as sound technician for the community association (“Association”) at Sun City Anthem and will work various shows on an on-call basis and no more than eight (8) hours per day. This position will ensure that all support and service is conducted by trade code and fulfilled in a manner consistent with the standards, goals, and objectives of the Association. The position will be paid a flat rate of three hundred ($300) per show, not to include any overtime calculated at the state’s minimum hourly wage.

  • Must be detail oriented and have the ability to multi-task.

  • Must be able to speak in a clear and understandable voice so that communication may be conducted with people of various levels of education and capabilities.
  • Ability to stand to greet members and guests for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to interact with all types of individuals, be mentally alert, detail oriented and have good reasoning skills.
  • Skilled in maintaining an efficient cheerful and professional attitude while dealing with people in volatile and sensitive situations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Must be able to run/operate a NEO Strand Lighting Console.
    • Must be able to train and learn equipment dealing with the lighting systems as used for live performances.
    • Must be able to rig lighting fixtures above the stage as well as install gel on the lighting fixtures in their proper color and place.
    • Operate and program the stage lighting control console preset and scene master faders with smoothness and coordination in relation to the house lighting controls and theatrical performances.
  • Install and/or repair electrical lighting in the theater using common hand tools.
  • Must be flexible to work extended hours and weekends. Must be meticulous, dependable, self-motivated, organized, detail orientated and able to prioritize. Function effectively under stress and interruptions.
  • Possess good interpersonal skills in order to deal well with a variety of personalities.
  • Accountable for one’s own work and others.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to walk inside, outside, and upstairs without assistance.
  • Ability to sit, stand, stoop, kneel, push, shove, lift, carry and move objects that can weigh up to twenty-five pounds.
  • Ability to exchange and receive information through oral communications and to make discriminations in sound.
  • Ability to see well enough to read faint or partially obscured writing or printing with or without corrective lenses.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Work is performed primarily indoors in a climate-controlled environment where lighting is fluorescent and may vary from bright to dark. When work is performed outdoors, you may be subject to the elements of wind, rain, cold, wet, and extreme heat.
EQUIPMENT USED
  • Computer/Laptop, Lighting Board, a walkie-talkie
REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Working knowledge of digital lighting boards.
  • Ability to program said lighting board.
  • Ability to mix lights on the fly (non-programmed).
  • At least 3 years’ experience as a Lighting Designer.
  • Experience in working in the field of live stage performance, preferably with a large- scale production.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Computer literate
  • Knowledge of automated systems, preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of leading-edge lighting technology.
