Machine Shop Estimator
A growing Machining and Engineering Company has an immediate opportunity for an experienced Estimator. The rapid growth of our company has created the demand for someone who can step in and immediately estimate machining projects. If you are a self-starter, a team player, have a professional attitude and appearance, and possess attention to detail, you may qualify for this opportunity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Examine blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications to understand project requirements and scope of work.
- Identify the materials, tools, and equipment needed for projects, and estimate their costs accurately.
- Assess the labor requirements for each project, including skilled and unskilled labor, and calculate labor costs based on project timelines and complexity.
- Factor in overhead costs, such as utilities, maintenance, and administrative expenses, as well as any additional miscellaneous expenses relevant to the project.
- Conduct thorough cost analysis to determine the total project cost, ensuring profitability while remaining competitive in the market. Develop pricing strategies that account for material costs, labor expenses, overhead, and profit margins.
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, procurement specialists, and production personnel to gather necessary information and ensure that estimates meet project objectives.
- Prepare detailed bids and proposals in response to client requests for quotation (RFQ), ensuring accuracy, competitiveness, and compliance with client requirements and industry standards.
- Maintain comprehensive records of project estimates, including cost breakdowns, assumptions, and documentation of any deviations or change orders.
- Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and competitor pricing to inform pricing strategies and maintain competitiveness in the marketplace.
- Provide management with reports on bids won/lost.
Essential Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Proven experience as an estimator in a machine shop environment preferred.
- Proficiency in cost estimation software and spreadsheet applications mainly Paperless Parts and Job Boss.
- Certification in Estimating or a related field.
- Experience with CAD/CAM software for generating machining programs.
- Understanding of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies
- Knowledge of fabrication processes, machining techniques, and material properties.
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations.
