Job Description

Machinist

The Machinist position requires the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and models to select the appropriate equipment, make appropriate programs and operate the machinery to manufacture the part per specifications. The Machinist will be responsible for ensuring that the parts are within tolerance and provide feedback to management, engineering and quality teams on issues or concerns with manufacturing parts.

Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Operate and maintain CNC lathes, milling centers/machines as well as manual lathes.
  • Review drawings or samples to ensure accurate production; take precise measurements for cutting/shaping tasks using appropriate machine settings.
  • Take measurements and mark material for cutting or shaping.
  • Select appropriate machines and position or load material for a job.
  • Determine and program size of batches, speed of machine, etc.
  • Monitor machine while working to adjust the feed, maintain temperature and identify issues.
  • FAI and periodically check output to ensure consistency with specifications and record then discard defects.
  • Use appropriate tooling to manufacture parts most efficiently while meeting our quality standard.
  • Adhere to good housekeeping and safety requirements.
  • Perform quality assurance tests to ensure products meet design specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems with programming as they occur.
  • Perform basic / routine maintenance on the machines including replacement of consumable items, cleaning, and oiling/greasing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High attention to detail and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must have a positive and professional attitude.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Familiarity and skill with interpreting technical drawings.
  • Competent with metrology tools and measuring devices (calipers, micrometers, etc.).
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Proficiency in CAM software is required.
  • Proficiency in CAD is a plus.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Prolonged periods of standing.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
