Position Description

Position Title: Teacher Coach

Reports To: Director of Mental Health and Support Services

Classification: Full Time/ Full Year / Non-Exempt

Status: Hourly

Range: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour

Date: May 19, 2023

Summary/Objective: This position is responsible collaborating with staff, coordinating training and keeping appropriate records of all aspects of job.

Essential Functions: Collaboration with Staff

  • Works in concert and collaboration with other Head Start Staff, educational, social service, and health care professionals.
  • Provides one-on-one coaching with Head Start teachers and home visitors. This includes goal setting, observations, and strength-based feedback.
  • Supports teachers in individualization for children based on screening, assessment, and anecdotal notes.
  • Actively participates in two-way communication among co-workers to ensure all staff is informed of all pertinent information as it pertains to the center and classroom activities. Communicates regularly and works cooperatively with all staff.

Training

  • Coordinates/facilitates training and technical assistance to Head Start staff in appropriate teaching practices, curriculum implementation, the coaching process, and differing abilities.
  • Attends and/or facilitates pre-service and in-service workshops and conferences as required by the Program.
  • Professional knowledge, skills, and attitudes are enhanced by the utilization of opportunities and resources available. Conducts a performance self-evaluation and works consistently to improve own job performance & develops individual professional development goals annually.

Documentation

  • Documents all coaching hours and goals set by staff.
  • Keeps consistent records and utilizes coaching forms and other software.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment: This job operates primarily in an office and classroom environment.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly required to travel in their own vehicle, expect regular kneeling, stooping, bending, and sitting on the floor. There will also be occasional lifting up-to 50 pounds.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: Full time, full-year position, depending on Agency funding. Limited evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel: Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Required Education and Experience: The candidate will have a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or in a related field and at least three (3) years of experience working with children with differing abilities; or equivalent combination of related training and experience. No record of abuse/neglect of children or adults; no prior criminal record relative to the position. Must pass pre-employment physical, TB test. Be certified in Child and Adult CPR and Basic First Aid. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
