CH2M HILL BWXT West Valley, LLC (CHBWV) is the prime contractor selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Phase 1 – Facility Disposition Project at the West Valley Demonstration Project. The site is a scenic 30-minute drive south of Buffalo, New York. In cooperation with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, CHBWV continues to decontaminate and decommission facilities at this site.

JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE OF POSITION

CHBWV is seeking a qualified candidate to assume engineering responsibility for one or more related phases of work of an engineering discipline as directed by a manager. The engineer will be required to perform a wide variety of engineering and technical duties.

  • Trouble shoot, evaluate, and develop solutions for mechanical systems and components to include but not limited to ventilation/HVAC, pneumatic, water/piping, and demolition process.
  • Evaluate, and develop solutions for structural components including those associated with the Main Plant Process Building Demolition process.

The work requires knowledge and application of engineering techniques, principles, and practices employed in the area of assignment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

Grade 30: Bachelors of Science or Technology degree in an applicable engineering discipline from an accredited program plus a minimum of three (3) years of professional engineering experience. Graduate degree in engineering may be substituted for some experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Auto-Cad, Bentley Navigator

Other Requirements:

  • Must have fundamental knowledge of engineering principles and practices and working knowledge in area of expertise. Must have thorough understanding of theory, instrumentation and methods for experimental measurements.
  • Must have fundamental knowledge of DOE conduct of engineering requirements and capable of following implementation guidelines.
  • Must possess mastery engineering knowledge to successfully complete difficult assignments. Must possess familiarity and functional competency with standard computer programs, basic skills in oral and written communication and developed organizational skills.
  • Must be able to handle direct responsibility for planning, organizing, monitoring, and developing approaches for resources within the requirements of the DOE and general CHBVW and Corporate guidelines, policies, objectives, and procedures. Must demonstrate leadership through developing and implementing strategies. The impact of this primary role is direct and significant with direct accountability to CHBWV management.
  • Must be able to work independently under consultative direction, be technically competent to work on the most complex engineering activities and recommend changes in systems and procedures. May act as lead person or technical expert to direct work of others, develop and implement special projects, develop procedures, and mentor others.
  • Must demonstrate originality, sound judgment, independent evaluation, selection and modification of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Must assume responsibility for accuracy and adequacy of the final solution.
  • Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills in order to exchange information, resolve problems, and coordinate tasks.
  • Must be able to use independent judgment to perform, identify, and analyze diverse work control responsibilities involving different and unrelated processes and methods.
  • Must be able to isolate and define unknown conditions, resolve critical issues, or develop new theories according to industry principles, theories, and codes.
  • Must be able to interface with individuals or groups from inside and outside of the organization, and senior management. May be required to make presentations to employees and managers. Must be able to influence, motivate, investigate, or direct individuals or groups in accordance with engineering principles, theories, and codes.
