THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist is responsible for planning, establishing, implementing, and maintaining a variety of occupational health, safety, and environmental programs to assure the highest possible degree of safety for employees and assures that the company complies with applicable federal and state health, safety, and environmental laws, regulations, and standards by embracing current standards and embracing new technologies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Conduct Job Safety Analysis on new or changing functions to ensure jobs may be performed while following all required safety procedures.

· Continuously evaluate PPE and ensure employees have the best options available fitting the needs of the job.

· Drive daily employee engagement and involvement in safety programs, training, committees, etc.

· Ensure annual compliance to all OSHA required programs and reporting including maintaining onsite OSHA 300 logs.

  • Coordinate with Parent Company EHS programs and initiatives, and participate in the Corporate Safety Committee governing best practices to instill a safe working environment throughout all business units of Transtar.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve training for occupational health, safety, and environment.
  • Conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices, and provide advice and counsel concerning all city, state, and federal compliance regulations.
  • Assist in the preparation of comprehensive recommendations for corrective actions to eliminate or minimize potential or existing hazards.
  • Review injury and property damage reports and compliance of worker’s compensation program.
  • Develop controls for hazards and coordinate the implementation of controls from results of hazard analysis.
  • Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies, and procedures with recommended changes that reflect improved opportunities to eliminate workplace accidents.
  • Conduct specialized safety and environmental training programs to communicate hazard control information.
  • Conduct new-hire occupational health, safety and environmental orientation.
  • Responsible for compiling, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting accident, loss, and exposure statistical data.
  • Triage work-related injuries and illnesses to determine best course of action.
  • Maintain chemical inventory SDS.
  • Annual hearing tests (scheduling, compliance, medical exams when warranted).
  • Coordinate and conduct safety teams and meetings.
  • Review injury and property damage reports and compliance of worker’s compensation program.
  • Direct environmental compliance programs related to hazardous waste, air permitting, water pollution control, storm water, underground storage tanks and community right-to-know programs.
  • Make recommendations for the purchase of safety equipment and supplies, including personal protective equipment.
  • Electrical arc flash regulations
  • Perform other related duties as directed.


KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences, or equivalent work experience in the industry.
  • Prefer ~5 years of experience with the development and implementation of health, safety, and environmental programs.
  • Must have knowledge, training, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience in the occupational health, safety, and environmental field, as well as with applicable federal and state regulations and standards.
  • Two to four years of related manufacturing experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of delivering hands-on health, safety, and environmental training.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and coordinate comprehensive health, safety, and environmental programs.
  • Workplace ergonomics background/training
  • Familiar with lean manufacturing principles preferred.
  • Ability to lead by influence.
  • Experience with group and individual coaching.
  • Organizational skills necessary to manage multiple projects and facilitate problem-solving.
  • Act as a technical and cultural change agent for environmental, health, and safety.
  • Strong PC skills in Microsoft Office.
  • Self started
