Job Title:Project Manager-Wexner Medical Center in Facilities Design and ConstructionDepartment:Administration and Planning | FOD Design and Construction

The Wexner Medical Center Project Manager in Facilities Design and Construction is responsible for capital building projects, renovations, mechanical/electrical and other projects as assigned. Facilitates and guides project development. Manages, supervises, directs and coordinates new construction and renovation projects through the entire project life cycle, including but not limited to budget/estimating, scheduling, planning/design, bidding, construction and closeout phases.

Project delivery methods utilized include but not limited to Design/Bid/Build, Design-Build and Construction Manager at Risk. The Wexner Medical Center Project Manager ensures projects run according to schedule, meets financial objectives and university core goals while exercising independent judgement. Skillfully navigates the wide array of tasks and responsibilities required to successfully deliver projects while providing the highest level of customer service.

As Project Manager you will coordinate pricing and proposals with contractors on projects as well as:

  • Monitors construction timeline and ensures that contractors are maintaining schedule and budgets.

  • Review/approve monthly contractor billing to ensure request aligns with work completed to date.

  • Coordinates necessary interruption of services with FOD Operations, hospital utilities, energy partners, etc.

  • Will collaborate with epidemiology, hospital safety, compliance and operations.

  • Review and/or approve shop drawings, change directives (field work orders), request for information, and change orders.

  • Transitions projects to university operations and departments at occupancy.

  • Closes out projects at completion, ensuring all final invoices and contractual commitments have been processed.

  • Verifies record drawings and operating manuals are received and delivered to the appropriate university departments.

  • Acts as University representative included, but not limited to, architects, engineers, construction managers and contractors to accomplish the project within the established schedule and budget and within the customers expectations.

  • Prepares and develops cost estimates, schedules and scopes of work for new construction and renovation projects as assigned for customer/stakeholder approval.

  • Reviews and negotiates fee proposals of consultants and coordinates activities of architects, consultants and contractors.

  • Reviews design documents and project manuals for compliance with building code, university building design standards and project objectives.

You will also provide communications to Director of Projects, Senior Leadership, Medical Center Leadership, customers and stakeholders during all project phases. Prepares and provides project status reports and project schedules for Director of Projects, Administrators, Medical Center Leadership and Senior Leadership. Provides recommendations on project costs analysis and alternatives to deliver projects on time and on budget. Partners and coordinates work with FOD Operations, OCIO, Medical Center Operations and departments. Works actively with other areas of the university to ensure university-wide collaboration, collegiality, civility and teamwork. You will typically manage projects that are mid-range in size and complexity (approximate budgets +/- $20 million, and delivers projects following rules set forth in the Ohio Revised Code 153, Ohio Administrative Code 153, Building Design Standards, and university policies. Maintains documentation of all assigned projects in the electronic project file and project management system. Participates and may lead departmental staff, design and construction coordination meetings. Participates in continuing education, internal workshops and training sessions. Hours and days may vary due to project needs. Maybe required for 24 hour emergency call. Potential travel to sites outside the Columbus Campus may be required for this position. Will require successful completion of a criminal background check and health screening.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelors degree and 2 years of experience managing design and construction projects, facilities management or planning, OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Familiarity with state and local building codes. Knowledge of building systems, design, and construction techniques. Understanding of negotiating contracts and/or fee proposals. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills including demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with a broad range of customers and management levels. Proven organizational and problem solving skills. Working knowledge and practical application and experience in word processing, spreadsheet, planning and data base software use. Valid drivers license.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of applicable codes and regulatory requirements such as OSHA, OBC, NFPA, JCAHO, ADA, HIPAA. Experience with CADD, Revit, BIM, or other computer drafting programs. Understanding of the LEED rating system. Experience within a medical center/health care facility, academic, and/or infrastructure projects; public sector and/or university experience. Experience Licensed Architect or Engineer a plus.
