About this job

Responsibilities

  • Complying with the laboratory's technical, administrative and safety policies and procedures.
  • Participating in the laboratory's quality assurance plan, adhering to quality control and preventive maintenance policies and appropriately documenting these activities.
  • Working as part of a team to produce repeatable quality results.
  • Assessing and processing blood samples.
  • Performing DNA extraction and qPCR.
  • Preparing lab reagents and controls.
  • Reporting customer results.
  • Assisting with optimization projects and experiments.
  • Operating high performance liquid handling robots.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized laboratory space.
  • Following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Troubleshooting and identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance and/or reporting of test results by initiating corrective action and using the defined electronic system to make the required management notification.
  • Participating in proficiency testing in the same manner as routine samples.
  • Actively participating in successful and timely completion of training and competency assessment as outlined in the laboratory and departmental training programs.
  • Participating within the departmental team to resolve problems or implement projects.

Qualifications

  • Meets minimum regulatory education requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory/medical technology science, OR 90 semester hours including: 16 semester hours of chemistry including 6 hours inorganic chemistry, 16 hours biology, and 3 hours math.
  • qPCR experience is a plus
  • Ability to adapt to changes in a fast-paced and evolving work environment
  • Due to the nature of the tests extensive documentation skills are required
  • Requires strong attention to detail, communication, and organization
  • Requires the ability to adapt to change efficiently
  • Must have the flexibility to work occasional overtime to meet corporate and departmental goals
  • Schedule: [Mon, Wed-Sat], [Mon-Fri], or [Tues-Sat] (changes weekly; monthly schedule released at least 2 weeks in advance)
