Elevated Academy is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Special Education / Lead Teacher to join our team within a behavioral health facility located in North Phoenix . This role is pivotal in leading a lab learning environment and ensuring that our educational program meets the diverse needs of adolescents undergoing rehabilitation. The curriculum is delivered via the Edgenuity computer-based learning management system. The Lead Teacher will play a crucial role in managing the lab environments, providing leadership, guidance and support to two general education teachers, and ensuring the effective delivery of special education services.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead educator in a lab environment consisting of high school and middle school students.
- Managing and support the educational team to ensure a productive learning atmosphere.
- Oversee the delivery of the curriculum through the Edgenuity learning management system, ensuring it meets the needs of all students.
- Collaborate closely with the Director of Special Education to ensure that all students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) are current and that services align with their educational and therapeutic needs.
- Provide direct instruction and support to students as needed, filling in for teachers when necessary.
- Lead the development and implementation of innovative teaching strategies to accommodate the varied learning styles and needs of students.
- Monitor and evaluate students' progress, adapting educational plans to foster academic and personal growth.
- Foster a safe and inclusive lab environment that encourages students to engage in their recovery and educational journeys.
- Liaise with mental health professionals within the behavioral health facility to integrate educational and therapeutic goals.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay abreast of best practices in special education and recovery-focused teaching methodologies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Valid teaching certification in Special Education.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in special education, with prior leadership or supervisory experience highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs).
- Proficiency with computer-based learning management systems, specifically Edgenuity, or the ability to quickly learn new technologies.
- Strong understanding of the challenges faced by adolescents with substance use disorders, mental health conditions, and co-occurring disorders.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, educators, and mental health professionals.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development in the fields of special education, mental health, and substance abuse recovery.
