Public Relations Coordinator/Athletic Director

Arkansas State University-Newport is seeking applications for the position of Public Relations Coordinator/Athletic Director on the Newport campus. The Public Relations Coordinator is a campus-based position that is responsible for public relations activities for the campus and its Athletic Programs, consistent with ASUN strategic branding, goals and objectives. The incumbent coordinates with the Executive Cabinet, Dean for Enrollment Management, Academic Deans, and other key personnel on public relations activities to support strategic goals. The Coordinator develops and distributes press releases; manages social media (Aviator athletics); assists with college social media, maintains relationship with local media including print, digital and broadcast; contributes website and -newsletter content; supports on-campus events, community spaces and outreach. This position reports to the Chancellor.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Public Relations Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing a public relations/communications calendar that increases awareness and understanding of campus programs and services to increase enrollment, as well as Institutional Advancement goals by reaching both internal and external audiences through effective performance in these essential duties:
• Works with Marketing to develop and distribute press releases; contribute content for social media; maintaining relationship with local media including print, digital and broadcast;
• Developing website content and implementing updates related to PR goals and objectives through the ASUN Marketing Team;
• Researching and advising college management on opportunities to promote the campus through public relations.
• Creating content and engagement strategy via campus social media to promote Aviator Athletics sports programs.
• Coordinating with freelancers, contractors or other campus coordinators; and performing tasks such as basic photography and event staffing.

• Responsible for the game day entertainment experience, including crowd engagement, giveaways, fan building, et al…
• Respond to specific media questions related to sports schedules, statistics, game results, rankings, player recognition, and post-conference competition.
• Coordinate information released to the press and broadcast media related to sports schedules, statistics, game results, rankings, player recognition, and post-conference competition.
• Coordinate with Marketing regarding writing, editing, and producing athletic publications such as media guides, programs, brochures, schedule cards, and other marketing materials.
• Maintain Active Schedule, Update, and Add content to the college’s athletic website.
• Collect biographical information from players and coaches.
• Prepare budgets for athletic programs and allocate athletic funds.
• Provide leadership and guidance for sports activities and programs.
• Supervise purchase and maintenance of athletic equipment and facilities.
• Ensure compliance with government rules and league policies.
• Act as a liaison with selectors, leagues, and government agencies.
• Coordinate with coaches on team travel, game scheduling, and practice sessions.
• Prepare and present reports on team performance and needs for improvement.
• Mediate any disputes arising between coaches and athletes.


In addition to the duties listed above, the incumbent is required to serve on assigned committees and task forces; Attend and participate at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings. These may involve attendance at afterhours events.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree with three years’ experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
