Overview:

The Sweetbay Barista at the Hotel Effie is responsible for preparing hot and cold beverages, based on standardized recipes while maintaining the highest standards to produce an appealing and appetizing product. Responsible for ensuring cleanliness, sanitation, and safety in the coffee bar and work areas while minimizing waste and maximizing cost/production ratio.

Responsibilities:
  • Greet customers as they enter
  • Give customers drink menus and answer their questions regarding ingredients
  • Take orders while paying attention to details (e.g., preferences of coffee blend, dairy, and sugar ratios)
  • Knowledge of menu and preparation techniques for hot & cold beverages following recipes.
  • Be Familiar with the operation of the P.O.S system.
  • Perform cashiering functions by closing checks, cash handling, and preparing end-of-shift paperwork.
  • Perform opening and closing procedures and side-work duties according to station rotation assignment and established checklist.
  • Answer the telephone according to standards, review voicemails and return calls to guests.
  • Maintain a positive, courteous, friendly personality, and professional appearance.
  • Ensure work areas are properly stocked and prepare requisitions as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with Hotel & Department SOP’s
  • Promotes coffee consumption by educating customers; selling coffee and coffee grinding and brewing equipment, accessories, and supplies; preparing and serving a variety of coffee drinks, along with pastries and cookies.
  • Welcomes customers by determining their coffee interests and needs.
  • Educates customers by presenting and explaining the coffee drink menu and answering questions.
  • Prepares and sells coffee drinks by following prescribed recipes and preparation techniques for coffee drinks, such as espresso, caffe latte, and cappuccino.
  • Generates revenues by attracting new customers; defining new and expanded services and products.
  • Maintains inventories by replenishing coffee bean supply; stocking coffee brewing equipment; maintaining supplies, pastries, and cookies for the coffee bar.
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by following organization standards and sanitation regulations.
  • Enhances coffee shop reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Serve beverages and prepared food, like cookies, pastries, and muffins
  • Receive and process payments (cash and credit cards)
  • Keep the Sweet Bay area and table clean
  • Maintain stock of products, clean mugs, and saucer plates.
  • Check if brewing equipment operates properly and report any maintenance needs
  • Comply with health and safety regulations
  • Communicate customer feedback to managers and recommend new menu items
Qualifications:
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and written, with all levels of employees and guests in a positive, attentive, friendly, courteous, and service-oriented manner.

  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.

  • Attend all hotel-required meetings and training.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Highgate Hotel Standards, as required by scheduling, which will vary according to the needs of the hotel.

  • Comply with Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Maximize efforts towards productivity, identify problem areas and assist in implementing solutions.
  • Must be effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary.
  • Must be able to understand and apply complex information, data, etc. from various sources to meet appropriate objectives. Including basic math.

  • Education and Experience:
  • High School diploma or equivalent and/or experience in a hotel or a related field preferred.
  • Previous Barista experience preferred.
