Salary:

Decatur Diamond, a privately held, US manufacturer of diamond-based, precision cutting tools,

is seeking a qualified Product Design Engineer for our production facility located in Decatur, Indiana.


Decatur Diamond has a broad offering of diamond-based tools in the industry.   Our products include, but are not limited to the Ultra Mill milling cutter and associated diamond-based cartridges and inserts, fixed-pocket brazed tools, CVD coated solid carbide rounds and inserts, as well as very high precision, diamond based-complex rounds, (e.g., automotive reamers, valve seat and guide tools, etc.)

The hours for this position will be 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

This position requires the successful candidate to work on-site to complete all responsibilities and is not eligible for remote work.

 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Support of Decatur Diamond’s initiatives by creating accurate models of parts and tooling, while working closely with R&D and other departments to successfully develop new products and/or implement new tooling, techniques, or processes.
  • Work with Engineering and R&D Team to create 2D/3D CAD packages of new and existing reverse-engineered parts to facilitate creation of both in-house product tooling and finished parts.
  • Utilize CAD/CAM to program CNC machinery for production machining processes with a focus on product quality and production efficiency.
  • Continually improve and modify product specifications and production procedures based on customer and industry feedback and following quality control procedures.
  • Track time and cost of new tooling projects to create accurate project timelines with complete Bill of Materials.
  • Research new manufacturing capabilities and assist with installation and implementation of new equipment and processes.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must Have:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent technical experience
  • Experience in 3D CAD Design Software (SolidWorks) and cutting tool design
  • Diamond-based precision cutting tool manufacturing processes experience highly desired.
  • Good writing, verbal, and listening skills
  • Ability to document and write production instructions
  • Analytical skills, ability to perform root cause analysis
  • Advanced mathematical skills
  • Ability to facilitate and lead groups
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
