Wet Lab Technician
Infectious Diseases/ Science
$22.00-$23.00 per hour
Contract with potential for hire!
Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm
Columbus, Ohio (onsite)
The Laboratory Technician will play a crucial role in supporting research and experiments within the IDI-GEMS lab. The ideal candidate will have a background in both molecular biology and microbiology techniques, demonstrating proficiency in handling various biological samples and conducting experiments. This position involves a combination of hands-on laboratory work and collaboration with research teams.
What you’ll be doing:
- Execute molecular biology experiments, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, and gel electrophoresis
- Perform microbiological techniques such as microbial culture preparation
- Prepare reagents and solutions according to established protocols
- Document experimental procedures, results, and observations accurately
- Collaborate with researchers to achieve project goals and timelines
- Would be conducting very basic testing on the below:
- Wastewater
- Dust
- Eventually, ticks that are no longer alive
Who we’re looking for:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or a related field
- Hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques, such as PCR, qPCR, DNA/RNA extraction, and microbiological techniques
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment, instrumentation, safety protocols, and Good Lab Practices
- Heavy wet lab experience/lab technical skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities
- Effective communication skills for collaboration within a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a dynamic research environment
- Experience in Next-Generation Sequencing technologies
- Entomology knowledge (Tick)
- 2 years – Microbiology/Molecular Biology coursework/Internship experience is acceptable
