PURPOSE:

The Courtesy Clerk position allows you the opportunity to develop excellent customer service skills by providing our valued customers with superior service in a environment where you will be encouraged to grow and learn the grocery business. This is an entry level position and we are looking for passionate people who can take on the role of customer service ambassadors. Courtesy clerks also take "go-backs" back to shelves, sweep aisles, clean up spills, clean checks stands, and carts, whatever is needed to ensure a clean and inviting grocery store. In this position you may be bagging customer orders, assisting customers with taking their purchases to their vehicle or retrieving carts in an efficient, safe and courteous manner. DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:

The essential duties of the Courtesy Clerk consist of, but are not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • THE CUSTOMER IS THE FIRST PRIORITY; the entire store is in the forefront of that activity; and every member of the store's team is here to fully support that priority with prompt and friendly service.
  • Strive to always provide the best customer service whenever possible.
  • Follow the assigned weekly work schedule to ensure adequate coverage in the front end area, by maintaining punctual and regular attendance.
  • Arrive at work on time and leave per scheduled time unless otherwise directed.
  • Dress and groom according to company policy, including uniform, name badge, and hat or apron requirements.
  • Always maintain a neat well-groomed appearance.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with company rules, policies, safety requirements, and security standards, and all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations.
  • Do not chew gum or play on mobile communication devices (MCDs) such as cell phones or tablets during the workday.
  • Greet all customers that are within 10 feet of you, and provide them with prompt, courteous service, and assistance.
  • Be attentive to the customer. This includes looking the person in the eyes and listening to their needs, to accommodate them.
  • Walk customer to the proper area who may be looking for specific merchandise.
  • Properly follow orders from Front End Shift Supervisors.
  • Keep the shift supervisor informed in a timely manner of the condition of the front entrance and parking lot.
  • Properly bag and separate customers goods (dry, frozen, cool).
  • Assist front end staff and customers anytime you are called for help.
  • React within 30 seconds when paged.
  • Assist cashiers with price checks.
  • Accomplish stocking when requested.
  • Clean and sweep the store floor and restrooms when assigned.
  • Change the Reader Board when assigned.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and stocking of the hospitality table in food court and employee break room.
  • Replenish the front end supplies.
  • Bring shopping carts into the store from the parking lot in a continuous manner.
  • Routinely make up the bails in receiving warehouse, if assigned and 18 years or older.
  • Complete your work in a prompt, ethical and prudent manner.
  • Remains alert at all times for suspicious customers.
  • Ensures that customer requests are acted upon. Refer all complaints that have not or cannot be settled to the supervisor for advice or final action.
  • And any other duty or task as may be assigned from time to time by the Front End Manager or Shift Supervisor.

PHYSICAL AND GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires no experience, but must be trainable to accomplish the tasks listed under duties. Must perceive an excellent friendly attitude and not be intimidated in servicing customers.
  • Must be a dynamic individual with the ability and skills to meet, greet and serve customers with a good attitude.
  • Knowledge must include experience in the various food products in order to place them in the proper bag/box.
  • Must be able to comprehend orders and complete the tasks in an efficient manner.
  • Must be able to communicate in English.
  • The physical requirements are stressful and demanding. Body movements consist of walking, turning the head and torso, reaching, grasping, bending and flexing the arms, legs, wrists and fingers. Standing the majority of the shift.
  • The ability to help with the unloading and loading of groceries and stock shelves. Daily mopping and sweeping as required in the store, and retrieving front end supplies, i.e. bags.
  • Additional duties include merchandising the display areas and making bails if 18 years or older and as assigned. The sense of being able to see and hear and have full power of speech.
  • Lifting cases that can weigh up to fifty (50) pounds is required.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing, in English, to interact with Customers, and employees, write and read reports and instructions.
  • This is a highly visible position and must provide a high level of friendly customer service and a positive attitude.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work will consist of a climate controlled store; the entry and exit of customers will allow the outside temperatures to enter the store. You will be exposed to weather conditions that is warm, to heavy rains, to cold and below freezing conditions.
