As an Industrial Hygiene Technician Intern, you will work with a team of experts to perform environmental, health and safety consulting services and provide unparalleled client service.  You will also be provided the opportunity to work with highly qualified mentors as you begin to learn possible career paths.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Gaining experience working directly with clients and project representatives (adjusters, brokers, insurers, property owners or managers, public and government entities, commercial and private companies, etc.).
  • During necessary site visits you will obtain related project documents including sampling and notes.
  • Assisting with field inspections and necessary site visits to evaluate the scope of work/damage.
  • Assisting on any number of projects at various stages of completion.
  • Assisting in preparing studies and reports following standard format and procedures.
  • Assist in investigating, measuring and evaluating environmental, health and safety conditions at client locations and carrying out relevant research, development, planning to complete comprehensive reports for review by senior staff.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or other science or technical degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in both your major and overall.
  • Proficient in general computer skills as well as Microsoft office including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Reliable transportation to the nearest J.S. Held office, if required by your manager, and any regional travel that may be necessary. Some internships may be virtual, but all may have the opportunity for travel.
  • Strong report writing skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to translate visual observations into field notes.
  • Ability to quickly learn and complete repetitive tasks.
  • Possess problem solving/analysis skills
  • Someone who works well in a team environment and is self-motivated.

 

Work Environment:

  • Work may be performed indoors or outdoors.  Indoor spaces may not be conditioned.
  • Wet or humid or colder conditions may be encountered in properties assessed for damages.
  • Varying levels of personal protective equipment will be required at various times. A physical examination will be performed by an occupational physician to ensure that you can wear personal protective equipment, where needed.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

  • Some sitting limited to lunch, breaks, driving, and report writing.
  • Most duties performed on feet.
  • Able to carry equipment, as much as 30lbs unassisted.
  • Push or pull items.
  • Able to reach above head.
  • Able to bend at the knee.
  • Able to climb ladders to reach high areas.
  • Able to squat kneel or crouch in confined spaces when necessary.
  • Able to detect burning sensations on skin etc.
