Building Maintenance Assistant

The Maintenance Assistant will assist in the maintenance and repair of Messiah Lifeways buildings and equipment.

Job Title: Building Maintenance Assistant

Status: Full-Time Days

Shifts: Monday - Friday working 7:30am - 4pm, Saturdays during EOC rotation

Salary Range: starting at $18/hr

What do I need as a Building Maintenance Assistant with Messiah Lifeways?

  • Current and valid PA Driver's License
  • Minimum 2 years related experience
  • Willingness to work with the elderly and able to communicate well with residents and staff

What will I do as a Building Maintenance Assistant with Messiah Lifeways?

  • Carry out all requests assigned by the Facilities Manager. These requests may include:
    • Maintain, repair or trouble-shoot all kitchen equipment, air handlers, icemakers, appliances, electrical systems, plumbing systems and fixtures, door/window/and associated hardware repair.
    • Must have knowledge and ability to apply general mechanical repair and maintenance practices and home repair.
    • Work with and install plumbing lines, PVC, PEX, CPVC, and copper.
    • Work with and install electrical system know how to use an electrical meter for volts, amp and ohm, etc.
    • Must be able to do drywall patching/repair and painting.
    • Must be able to work from heights, on ladders, lifts, and roofs.
  • May need to assist with resident moves, which involve furniture and other items that would be instructed to be moved by Social Services and/or Housekeeping department.
  • Routine maintenance duties as requested by residents or departments.
  • On-Call: Is responsible to help with on-call coverage for 24-hours of the total campus (including main building, cottages, and apartment buildings). This involves maintenance related issues. The Facilities Manager will determine coverage for weekends or holidays.
  • Able and willing to alter work schedules to accommodate special needs such as snow plowing and preventive maintenance projects and after hour emergencies.
  • Follow emergency procedures and respond rapidly and appropriately to emergencies, ensuring the safety of the residents and staff.
  • Follow proper procedures and promote safe work practices in order to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Work cooperatively and productively with others, including residents, families, and other employees.
  • Willingness to work under direction and supervision.
  • Confidentiality regarding resident information must be maintained in strict confidence, as well as other information pertaining to the business of Messiah Lifeways.
  • It is the responsibility of all Messiah Lifeways employees to be mindful of safety when performing duties. This is to include performing tasks in a safe manner, as well as being mindful of potential safety issues when traveling throughout the campus. If any unsafe conditions are discovered, this shall be reported to the Office of Safety and Security immediately, and actions shall be taken to reduce the possibility of injury until a permanent solution can be applied.
  • Operate and Maintain Wellness Center Pool and Indoor Hot Tub (must be able to complete and pass Certified Pool Operators course and Pesticide Category 24 (Pools) certification within 6 months of hire. (costs covered by Messiah Lifeways).
  • Additional duties and tasks as assigned.
