MISSION STATEMENT

The Legal Aid Society of Mid-New York, Inc. (LASMNY) is a non-profit public interest law firm. We provide free legal information, advice and representation to people who are unable to afford a lawyer. Our staff provides services in the following, thirteen counties: Broome, Chenango, Cayuga, Cortland, Delaware, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Oswego, and Otsego. In addition, our Agricultural Worker Program services the entire New York State.

JOB SUMMARY

The Legal Aid Society of Mid-New York, Inc. (LASMNY) is actively seeking a dynamic, full-time Senior Accountant to perform the day-to-day administration for the accounts payable, accounts receivable and billing processes. In addition, will provide a wide range of support to LASMNY’s Fiscal Department in a professional manner. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for prioritizing and meeting the goals, objectives, and reporting requirements of the Legal Services Corporation (LSC), and other funding sources. Must demonstrate a fundamental understanding and commitment to LASMNY’s mission and value of justice.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Perform the duties for Accounts Payable (A/P) and Accounts Receivable (A/R) as required.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports to funding sources.
  • Prepare and input cash receipt entries and General Journal Entries into the General Ledger.
  • Reconcile checking and saving accounts.
  • Prepare Forms 1099 and 1096.
  • Review travel vouchers and reimbursement expense report requests for accuracy, completeness and in compliance per LASMNY’s travel policy requirements.
  • Assist with coordination of annual audit.
  • Maintain and update inventory records every two (2) years.
  • Prepares reports as requested.
  • Reviews financial data for accuracy, identifies problems and supports day-to-day operations.
  • Assists with company cash flow analysis including, but not limited to, tracking cash flow activities, preparing reports, and analyzing information for management.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Comply and ensure that all Legal Services Corporation (LSC) and LASMNY policies, procedures and grant based reporting requirements are met.
  • Perform duties based upon requirements as assigned by the CFO. May be subject to change upon the needs of the agency.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree, Associate’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or an equivalent combination of education (or) work experience required. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is a plus.
  • Minimum of (3) years accounting experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals and best practices.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience working in a non-profit environment beneficial.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Bilingual or multilingual a plus.
