Position Summary:


The Extract Lab Assistant position is a blend of lab maintenance, administrative, freight shipping and assisting in the production of our health supplement products. The work is fast-paced, requires attention to detail in a cGMP regulated environment, utilizing safe work habits with certain material(s). The Extract Lab Assistant position is a full-time, non-exempt position that reports directly to the Extract Lab Manager. The scheduled shift will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., and is located in Shelton, WA.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Read weekly and daily production schedule or other work orders to determine appropriate sequence of production cycle from beginning to end.
  • Set up production equipment and arrange materials for processing.
  • Safely operate industrial hydraulic press, pumps, thermometers and scales as well as hoists and pallet jacks.
  • Transfer materials, supplies or products between work areas. Prepare freight for shipment and safely operate forklift and/or tractor.
  • Perform a variety of physically demanding activities which are primarily manual in nature in blocks of one (1) to two (2) hours per scheduled workday.
  • Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness in the laboratory by following established cleaning protocols.
  • Review and confirm batch production records and logs as one (1) of two (2) signers.
  • Update inventory levels utilizing Excel spreadsheets; accurately access, enter date, save and share files.
  • Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with other departments in the performance of duties.
  • Responsible to report food safety concerns immediately and stop operations when required.
  • Notifies others of equipment repair or maintenance needs.
  • May engage in collaborative inventory management and analytics once the extract process is mastered.
  • Performs a variety of other duties as assigned.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

 

  • Minimum of two (2) or more years of experience working in a production environment, preferably in food manufacturing.
  • Ability to learn and follow work sequence and duties; demonstrate above average attention to detail.
  • Ability to work safely with hazardous materials (95% Ethanol and 35% hydrogen peroxide).
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Basic to intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with SAP Business One preferred.
  • Ability to accurately type, enter data and utilize Microsoft Office Suite, to include basic operations in Excel.
  • Posses a high school diploma or GED. Some college experience is helpful.
  • Previous experience with dietary supplement regulations and cGMP requirements preferred.
  • Knowledge of the company’s products and manufacturing processes desired.

 

Physical and Mental Requirements:


  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds during a two (2) hour period per day on a regular basis.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. to shoulder height.
  • Manual and finger dexterity, multi-limb coordination, near and far vision required.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time when required.
  • Ability to continuously scoop five (5) pounds of rice out of a 55-gallon drum (approximately 200pounds) within an established workday.
  • Performing physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving entire body, such as lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling materials.
  • Ability to walk over varied terrain, which at times is uneven, on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Ability to talk with others to convey information effectively.
  • Ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted.
  • Ability to sit for intermittent periods when performing non-manual work in the office.

Wage Range: $20.70 - 28.00 per hour
