About the Position

Reporting to the CEO, the Finance Director will oversee the accounting processes, manage the financial controls of the business, and provide analytical and strategic consultation to the leadership team in making business decisions. This position will lead an accounting team in the Reno, Nevada office.

This position will have the opportunity to think creatively and use new technologies to enhance the accounting operation. There are opportunities to impact the business including financial analysis and reporting, analysis of revenue, margin and expenses, operational data analytics, and process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with CEO and COO in generating information regarding revenue, financial projections, and management for the accomplishment of strategic objectives.
  • Responsible for accounting operations, including financial accounting, support of budgeting and strategic planning, forecasting, and pertinent internal reporting. Maintains a constant review of the financial results of all operations.
  • Responsible for regulatory compliance and best practices for accounting and financial management. Oversee regulatory reporting, including tax planning and compliance.
  • Manages metrics and analytics reporting for Lumos & Associates' financial data. Presents regular financial reports to the Board of Directors.
  • Represents the company in dealing with the Board of Directors, Shareholders, employees, customers, the government, and the public at large.
  • Manages accounting processes and associated checks and balances to ensure daily, weekly, monthly, and annual accounting information is accurate and correctly reflects the financial position of the company.
  • Prepares monthly financial statements. Analyzes and reviews monthly results with the management team and assists in the development of actionable items to correct and enhance company profitability.
  • Plans and assists with year-end review of accounting records by an outside accounting firm for the preparation of annual financial reports and tax returns.
  • Reviews all financial statements and ledgers, and works with the accounting staff to clear up any discrepancies.
  • Manages banking operations which includes cash management, disbursement and receipt management, and related reconciliation and reporting.
  • Standardizes, documents, and improves accounting-related processes and internal controls across the organization.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed.
  • Supervises and trains Corporate Accounting Team in the functions of Payroll, A/R, A/P, bank deposits, journal entries, bank statement reconciliation, vendor relationships, filing systems, etc.
  • Mentors and coaches staff to achieve optimal job performance. Supports and encourages career development. Promotes positive employee relations and resolve employee issues. Supports team building with positive and open communication.
  • Participates in staff selection/interview process. Recruit, hire, and oversee training of accounting staff.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field. CPA and/or MBA preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience with AEC or professional services industry experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP).
  • Prior experience overseeing ERP implementation preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of accounting processes and internal controls.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High ethical standards and commitment to maintain sensitive information confidential.
  • Ability to manage projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to learn new systems and processes quickly.
  • Prior experience in managing a staff (supervise, train, coach, develop, motivate, interview, hire, terminate) and lead by example.
  • Computer proficient with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel/Outlook).
  • Knowledge and experience implementing and using ERP/Unanet, HRIS, and payroll software/Paylocity is preferred, but not required.
  • Valid driver's license and driving record with 3 or less demerit points.
