Division Director, Trauma, Critical Care and Burn
The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek an exceptional academic physician- scholar with proven leadership skills to become the next Division Director of Trauma, Critical Care, and Burn within The Department of Surgery. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience.

Position Overview
The Division of Trauma, Critical Care, and Burn focuses its efforts on clinical care, research, and education pertaining to urgent and emergent surgical problems. These include multiple trauma, burns, urgent and emergent general surgery conditions, and surgical critical care. The division was formed in March 2006 to enhance the Department of Surgery’s clinical care of critically ill surgical patients and patients with urgent and emergent surgical diseases, to develop excellent educational programs in those areas, and to support the discovery of new medical knowledge. The mission of the division is to improve people’s lives through innovation in research, education, and patient care related to our patient population. 

The Ohio State Division of Trauma, Critical Care, and Burn provides the highest level of care for life-threatening emergencies. Standout elements of our program include:

The Medical Center has over 1,500 patient beds, performs over 44,000 surgeries per year, and has over 1.7 million annual outpatient visits. Established in 1914, the Ohio State Department of Surgery has a long and respected tradition of excellence in clinical care, research and education. With Timothy M. Pawlik, MD, PhD, MPH as Chair, the Department of Surgery is composed of nine surgical specialty divisions and seven centers. Collectively, the Department of Surgery performs over 21,000 cases annually and was ranked in the top 10 according to the Blue Ridge rankings for NIH funding and ranked number 6 by Doximity for surgical residency reputation among surgery departments nationally. Duties and Responsibilities
• Ensuring Ohio State’s exceptional Division of Trauma, Critical Care, and Burn builds upon its incredible achievements and innovative research, outstanding clinical care, strong outcomes, and the education of the next generation of trauma, critical care, and burn faculty.
• Collaborate with Health System leadership to maintain trauma center accreditation.
• Lead and oversee the administrative operations of the division of Trauma, Critical Care, and Burn.
• Oversight and accountability for over $10 million in research, clinical, education, and development funds.
• Establish, in association with faculty members, divisional directions, goals, and programs in support of the Department of Surgery and the College of Medicine.
• Responsible for the implementation of new policies and initiatives to enhance patient care, across all clinical programs in trauma, critical care, and burn.
• Responsible for the budget and financial performance of the Division
• Mentoring and developing faculty throughout the division.
• Constructs opportunities for faculty to become recognized experts in their chosen sub-specialty.
• Recruiting and retaining top talent in the division.
• Maintaining and building upon further the diverse gender, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic faculty environment that exists within the division.
• Developing and expanding academic, clinical, and basic research activities.
• Enhancing patient volumes, safety, and quality care.
• Monitor quality metrics and identify strategies for continuous improvement.
• Working closely with institutional development to enhance the philanthropic endeavors of the Department of Surgery and the Division of Trauma, Critical Care, and Burn.
• Secures funding and organizes research endeavors in the area of the Division of Trauma, Critical Care, and Burn. 
• Assists faculty in funding initiatives.
• Facilitates interdisciplinary collaborations and promotes research collaboration.
• Strategically build patient care delivery platforms/programs in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Promotes the division, department, and college by participating in national research activities.
• Instructs medical students, residents, and fellows in formal lectures, patient care, and research.

Requirements
• 8-10 minimum years of strong faculty clinical, academic, and mentorship experience.
• Experience with service line development and implementation.
• MD, DO, or equivalent.
• Completion of an ACGME-accredited general surgery residency.
• Board Certified in general surgery and surgical critical care.
• Strong track record of clinical operations leadership.
• Demonstrated leadership skills in building innovative programs as well as recruiting and retaining faculty.
• Commitment to recruitment, development, and retention of women, underserved minorities, and disability status.
• Eligibility for Ohio medical licensure required.
• National reputation for teaching
• An active research program in basic, translational, clinical, or health services research is strongly desired.
