SALES REPRESENTATIVE (Outside Sales)

Salary plus commission potential exceeds $100K in first year of employment.

We are a well-established manufacturer with over 68 years of providing quality products to our clients. Phillips Manufacturing is the one-stop shop for drywall finishing accessories, lath, stucco accessories, metal channels, interior framing, and fire-rated assemblies with facilities around the country.

Position Summary: Responsible for introducing, developing, maintaining, and managing a comprehensive marketing presence for our full product line in Mid-Atlantic and Carolina territories.

Essential Functions:

  1. Develop and maintain regional market knowledge of pricing, AEC (with architects, engineers, and contractors) and distributor preferences for assigned industry and product lines.
  2. Travel throughout the assigned territory to call on regular and prospective customers to solicit orders.
  3. Drive a vehicle obeying traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures.
  4. Initiate and prospect distributor sales opportunities.
  5. Initiate, prospect and develop influence with AEC's.
  6. Market ongoing accounts and develop all possible business opportunities with designated region. This will be accomplished via phone calls, in person calls, open houses, product knowledge and reasonable entertainment expenditures.
  7. Develop marketing campaigns to accommodate goals of the company, seek input from, and work with, Regional Sales Manager and client inside sales and marketing personnel.
  8. Provide on-going communications to Regional Sales Manager regarding agendas/feedback for regional strategic plans. Establish appropriate communication timeframes with Regional Sales Manager (i.e. daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly) regarding how often and the type of communication that will be provided.
  9. Attend meetings and strategy sessions to remain informed of external and internal opportunities or threats to products and sales.
  10. May represent the company or client at trade association meetings and exhibits to promote client product, if necessary.
  11. May perform other duties that are not fundamental to the overall purpose and strategic impact of the job.

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and possess a valid state issued driver's license.
  • Knowledge of sales principles and practices.
  • Good organizational/time management skills.

  • Ability to interact with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to maintain courteous, professional, and effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the company.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from client managers, salespersons, and customers.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to operate a computer, telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator and other office equipment.
  • Ability to adhere to all organizational policies and procedures.
  • Ability to meet attendance standards and work long hours when necessary.

Experience: 3+ yrs proven experience in high volume sales, preferably in an outside sales capacity. Drywall distribution/GSD Sales experience. Contractor/Job Site experience, preferred.

Education: BSBA degree in Business or Marketing or equivalent work experience required.

Work Conditions: The work is typically performed in an office environment, mostly off site. Up to 80% travel required. Travel by automobile and or plane within specific region or regions.
