Burrow Global has an immediate need for a Relief Design Designer. This role provides process technical expertise on Relief Design to ensure that the facility is in compliance with relief design standards and codes. This role requires experience in relief design, good overall knowledge of safety & value-creation practices and documentation requirements. This role also assists with planning and implementation of relief design work requests with our approved engineering firms being used at the facility.

The Relief Design Designer is expected to do the following:

  1. Check for documentation completeness.
    1. Compliance with standards and codes
    2. Explanation of assumptions
    3. Documentation is thorough and clearly worded.
  2. Check for common mistakes and oversights.
    1. Suggest alternate solutions to reduce cost of implementation of design.
  3. Compliance with the organizations guidelines and practices.
  4. Help enforce consistency.

The Relief Design Designer is not expected to:

  1. Assure the arithmetic accuracy of the design calculations.
  2. Audit the installed system to assure adherence to the design.

Job Description:
The Relief Design Designer supports the North America sites by bringing special process safety engineering expertise for overpressure protection system design and risk assessment to the company. This person will be responsible for promoting consistency, accuracy and record retention for relief valve specification and sizing. They will drive our standards and improve our understanding of the calculations performed by our engineering firms. Good planning, communications and interpersonal skills are a must.

This person will have the expertise of our processes, chemistry, and materials of construction that are required for a properly designed relief valve.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Capable of performing and/or reviewing all aspects of Relief Design
  • Support Documentation reviews
  • Collect Plant Data and complete Field verification in the plants as needed
  • Ensure consistent Relief Design work process is followed.
  • Work with our engineering firms to ensure consistency on the relief design packages
  • Reviews relief design packages that are supplied by our engineering firms to check for consistency
  • Help our engineering firms and plants as needed to answer questions and assist with complex and/or high risk projects.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering required (Masters or Doctorate preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Process Engineering – Relief Design required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in reactive relief design is preferred.
  • Experience in Pressure Relief Design Manual is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated use of spreadsheet and Microsoft Office systems; SAP experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with Aspen Relief Design software, SuperChems, and iPRISM software is preferred.
  • E. license is preferred, but not required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in dealing with personnel, customers and external contractors.
  • Must possess analytical abilities and problem resolution skills; ability to apply mathematical concepts and interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions
  • Proven ability to lead, empower and engage others in process methods and procedures.
  • Effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
