The Laundry Attendant handles laundry operations, including washing, drying, folding, and ironing linens, as well as maintaining a clean and organized laundry facility. The laundry attendant contributes to providing a positive guest experience by ensuring that clean and well-maintained linens are readily available for use in guest rooms and public areas.
Requirements:Duties/Responsibilities:
- Sort and classify linens, towels, and other textiles based on type and degree of soiling.
- Load and operate industrial washing machines, dryers, and ironing equipment according to established guidelines.
- Monitor and adjust machine settings to ensure proper cleaning and fabric care.
- Use appropriate detergents and chemicals in accordance with safety and quality standards.
- Inspect items for stains, damage, or wear and report any issues to the housekeeping manager.
- Fold and stack linens, towels, and other textiles neatly and uniformly.
- Iron and press linens as required, ensuring a professional appearance.
- Package clean and pressed linens for distribution to different hotel areas.
- Keep track of linen inventory levels and report shortages to the housekeeping manager.
- Clean and maintain laundry equipment, including regular cleaning of lint traps and filters.
- Keep the laundry area clean, organized, and free from clutter.
- Adhere to proper handling and disposal of chemicals and cleaning agents.
- Coordinate with housekeeping and front desk departments to ensure a seamless flow of clean linens to guest rooms and public areas.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of laundry equipment, detergents, and cleaning techniques.
- Basic understanding of garment care and fabric types.
- Ability to operate industrial washing machines, dryers, and ironing equipment.
- Attention to detail to inspect linens for stains, damage, or wear.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to handle the physical demands of the job, including lifting and standing for extended periods.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills to coordinate with colleagues and supervisors.
- Customer service orientation to maintain a positive demeanor when interacting with guests and colleagues.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Adherence to the hotel's dress code and maintaining a neat and professional appearance at all times.
- Reliable and punctual.
Education and Experience:
- High School graduate or G.E.D. equivalent required.
- Read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and holidays, based on the hotel's operational needs.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Previous experience in laundry operations or housekeeping is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to spend a significant amount of time on their feet, standing and walking throughout the laundry area while sorting, loading, unloading, folding, and ironing linens.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. of dirty laundry, bins of clean linens and stacks of folded linens.
- Pushing and pulling laundry carts, trolleys, and equipment filled with linens can be a regular part of the job. These carts may vary in weight and require some effort to maneuver.
- Able to bend, stoop, and kneel frequently to load and unload laundry machines, pick up items from the floor, and perform various tasks.
- Able to use wrists, arms, and shoulders to fold and iron linens.
- Requires working in warmer conditions as the laundry facilities can have varying temperatures, with heat generated by laundry machines.
- Requires working in a noisy and potentially vibrating work environment as laundry machines and equipment can generate noise and vibrations.
- Ability to climb a ladder or use step stools to reach shelves or storage areas
