Director of Nursing (DON)

Dr. Arenia C. Mallory Community Health Center (MCHC) is currently seeking a passionate Director of Nursing (DON) to organize, plan, evaluate and direct the services of the Nursing Department. The Director of Nursing will implement Mallory CHC's mission, philosophy and goals in all activities while collaborating with the Medical Director and Chief Clinical Officer. The DON ensures compliance with organizational policies and procedure, state and federal laws related to the practice of nursing, and applicable laws and standards established by federal, state and local regulatory agencies. Additionally, the DON will plan and direct the staffing schedules for nurses and medical assistants to ensure staffing adequate to support scheduled clinical activities and provider productivity. Participate as a member of the senior management team, representing and advocating for the organization's nurses and medical assistants.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science or ADN Degree from a university or college with 2 years' experience
  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) through Mississippi Board of Nursing (MSBON)
  • Active Basic Life Support Certification (BLS)
  • At least 5 years' previous medical clinic experience required
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred
  • Willing to work as team leader in a busy, multifaceted organization
  • Willing to work for the successful accomplishment of Mallory CHC goals and objectives

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Help establish and maintain clinical nursing procedures, quality, safety, and infection control standards.
  • Participate in establishing organizational goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership for clinic staff and education for all Mallory CHC nursing personnel.
  • Assists in recruiting, interviewing and hiring of new nurses/MA's in the organization.
  • Responsible for the development of the New Hire Orientation Plan for Nurse & Medical Assistant staff members.
  • Train new RN's, LPN's, and CMA's on location. Consult with State Boards of Nursing, Pharmacy, etc. concerning nurse practice acts, and make sure all nursing staff are practicing as allowed.
  • Supervise subordinate personnel including: determining workload and delegating assignments, training, mentoring and development reviews, and initiating corrective or disciplinary actions.
  • Perform all nursing staff evaluations in conjunction with Clinical Care Liaison.
  • Visit all clinics regularly to review nursing procedures for adherence to standards.
  • Develop and implement procedures to support organizational programs and nurse best practice standards.
  • Recommend, advocate and/or implement, new and or changes to existing policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with the Mississippi Department of Health (MSDH) for latest immunization rules and procedures; train all Mallory CHC nursing personnel and check that immunizations are properly administered and documented.
  • Perform chart reviews for all nursing actions documented.
  • Consult with clinic coordinators regarding necessary changes in nursing actions or clinic processes that are not compliant or appropriate.
  • Ensure all nursing and CMA staff are practicing within scope of practice.
  • Stay informed of current CLIA requirements, ensure all clinics are compliant, and provide trainings as needed.
  • Present nursing training through staff meetings, written communication, or provide information to Clinical Care Liaison to present at staff meetings.
  • Research questions that providers, nursing staff, or Administration may have and provide appropriate response.
  • Attend meetings as assigned in order to stay informed of clinic practices.
  • Promote clear communication amongst a care team and treating clinicians by ensuring awareness regarding patient care plans.
  • Participate in improving Mallory CHC performance, processes, or programs through quality improvement.
  • Perform other necessary duties as required by the Community Health Center to meet the goals of providing primary health care.
