As part of our growing team, we are seeking an experienced Environmental Scientist to contribute to our environmental projects and play a pivotal role in our continued success. You will support our team of environmental professionals and civil engineers on a variety of public and private sector projects.

We are looking for an experienced Environmental Scientist who has a work history of conducting wetland/stream delineations, plant identification, wetland/stream habitat assessments, and ecological surveys (terrestrial and aquatic). The responsibilities of the position will include project management, leading teams for performance of ecological fieldwork, GPS data collection, and technical report writing. Your work may also entail preparing waterway permit applications for environmental regulatory compliance. Other opportunities will include a supporting role with freshwater mussel surveys, wetland/stream mitigation and monitoring projects, and threatened and endangered species habitat surveys. Additional responsibilities include working with clients, interacting with regulatory agency personnel, and communicating with other EMH&T team members.


Additional Information about the position

Some out of town travel will be required (primarily in Ohio). Our Environmental Scientists spend time both in the field and in the office. The amount of time in the field varies seasonally, but fieldwork will be conducted year-round.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Botany, Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Geology or related discipline, required. Master’s degree is preferred, but not required. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including technical writing and the ability to succinctly write reports, briefing notes and other documents.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information, both verbally and in written form.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently once provided sufficient direction.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.

Special consideration will be given to candidates with:

  • Strong field assessment capabilities related to wetland delineations, wetland monitoring, terrestrial habitats and aquatic/stream habitats.
  • GPS data collection and data processing experience.
  • Demonstrated experience obtaining Jurisdictional Determinations, Section 404/401 Permits, and Isolated Wetland Permits.
